Job Description

This position supports our healthcare professional liability line of business, HCPL and can be fully remote in the continental US.

Job Summary:
The Actuarial Assistant conducts internal reviews of the adequacy of reserves, assists in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, and assists with a variety of other special projects. The Actuarial Assistant will work under direct supervision. This position is primarily in the reserving function of the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • 15% - Assists in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statement exhibits.
  • 15% - Reviews (both technical and peer) work products from co-workers
  • 55% - Develop and analyze reserve indications generally using traditional actuarial methods (loss development methods, Bornhuetter-Ferguson, etc.) and other analyses for reserve related decisions.
  • 5% - Assists in other data collection and analyses.
  • 5% - Performs special projects as directed by management and other related duties as required.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • 5% -May be occasionally required to assist with rate filings including the preparation of rating spreadsheets and/or assist with statistical data calls and data requests from state insurance departments and other governmental or industry entities.
Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with SQL a plus.
  • Solid written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Access a plus.
  • Actively taking actuarial exams in pursuit of ACAS designation with 1 to 2 exams passed a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the insurance industry. One to two years of experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial sciences, mathematics, or financial related field.
Position Salary Range
$53,779.00 - $88,744.00
