The City of Lynnwood is seeking an Accountant!
The Accountant position is a professional-level accountant position and is expected to apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) while performing general accounting functions, maintaining the accounting and financial system account structure in accordance with the Washington State Budgeting Accounting and Reporting System (BARS), including grant programs, accounts receivable, capital assets and fleet, General, Enterprise and Internal Fund Accounting, reconciliation of bank statements, auditing and adhering to the City's policies, mission and goals.
Includes, but is not limited to, such essential functions as listed below:
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Prepare monthly journal entries to the BARS accounting computerized financial system, using reports, schedules, and/or trial balances.
- Prepare and submit required reports and payments to State agencies.
- Maintain City's Capital Assets (including fleet). Prepare capital assets inventory and reconciliation with financial records.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Perform various clerical functions including copying, filing, and distributing documents. Maintain department files, archive, and retrieve information. Handle sensitive or confidential matters, ensuring the confidentiality and security of documents and other issues.
- Maintain City's grant files, submit grant billings and perform monthly and/or yearly reconciliations, to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, as well as grant terms and conditions. Prepare annual Schedule of Federal Awards (SEFA), and all related state and local reports.
- Assist in preparation of the City's ACFR, annual financial statements, notes, schedules, other supplementary information, and related statistical schedules, in accordance with GAAP. The statements should meet or exceed the criteria established by the Governmental Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
- Prepare and maintain cost allocation for project expenditure reporting, Work in Progress, assets acquisition, disposition and depreciation.
- Serve as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies as needed to develop relationships, maintain communications, identify and resolve problems, and explain policies or procedures.
- Audit daily cash transactions, reconcile monthly bank statements, research discrepancies, import payments and prepare journal entries.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual billing. Perform monthly reconciliation of the subsidiary accounts to the general ledger.
- Coordinate the City's recording of Small and Attractive Assets.
