Full-time, 5 days a week

8 am-4 pm each day except Wednesday, 8 am-5 pm for faculty meetings

Position Summary:

The Bank Street School for Children is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and team-oriented World Languages teacher, who is an advocate for multilingualism and who seeks ways to integrate language and culture into all facets of the curriculum. A commitment to emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development, a progressive approach to teaching and learning, and an interest in professional growth are expected.

Qualifications:

  • Warmth, humor, flexibility, and optimism
  • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to diversity, social justice, and equity
  • Knowledge of child development, progressive education, and constructivist teaching
  • Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Initiative, creativity, flexibility, and collaboration
  • Skilled in designing instruction that is data-driven, differentiated, and actively engaging
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Experience teaching World Languages
  • Bachelor's degree in Spanish or equivalent education; Master's degree in education preferable
  • Experience in developing hands-on, developmentally appropriate Spanish curricula

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching elementary Spanish (reading, writing, speaking, listening, and culture) to 3rd and 4th-grade students, meeting the needs of the entire group as well as individual children
  • Designing experiences that develop language acquisition and increase sensitivity to the larger Spanish-speaking world
  • Cultivating meaningful collaborations with members of the Bank Street Community
  • Creating an inclusive classroom environment through the lens of social justice
  • Developing new, age and skill-appropriate curriculum within the guidelines and in collaboration with colleagues and the Middle School Division Head
  • Following established linguistic and content guidelines and goals for each level
  • Preparing and presenting to parents Fall & Winter Curriculum Night
  • Communicating with parents as necessary
  • Attending regular division, department, and supervisor meetings
