As a Project Water Resources Engineer or Scientist in Charlotte, North Carolina, you will work on complex projects involving innovative urban stormwater management and natural surface water systems, including sustainable green infrastructure planning studies, urban stormwater infrastructure design and infrastructure, flood mitigation practices, hydrologic/hydraulic analysis including dam breach studies and floodplain mapping, stream restoration, surface water, watershed, and stormwater runoff monitoring/modeling, industrial and construction site NPDES permitting support and inspections, & Clean Water Act regulatory support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In-stream and urban stormwater water quality monitoring and modeling;
  • Interacting with client representatives;
  • Task and project-level responsibility for scoping, performing, managing and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments;
  • Consistent with our sell-manage-do business model, play a role supporting lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring; and
  • Floodplain mapping and flood protection designs;
  • Applying innovative hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software, from 1-D to 3-D transport models;
  • Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.
  • Developing innovative green infrastructure solutions for the urban environment;
  • Developing construction documents, including engineering drawings and technical specifications;

Based on your current level of experience, you may be asked to take on task-level or project management responsibilities, along with business development, and staff mentoring tasks.

  • Fieldwork: Up to 10%
  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, boater certification, defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Overnight travel: Up to 10%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's degree in agricultural, biological, civil, or environmental engineering with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline. (required)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E., P.G. CPESC, CPSWG). (preferred)
  • Advanced degree in agricultural, biological, civil, or environmental engineering with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline. (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exceptional social skills and outstanding oral and written communication skills. (required)
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment to perform problem-solving and develop innovative solutions to meet project needs. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Experience with modeling and design software tools such as EPA-SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS. (preferred)
  • At least 7 years of research or related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
