About the Rotational Program:

The Embedded Software Engineering Rotational Development Program (ERDP) is all about developing the next generation of industry leaders and technical experts. The purpose of Caterpillar’s Engineering Rotational Development Program is to harness your ability and further develop you through rotational assignments and learning opportunities so that you may not only fulfill your career goals but provide excellent service to Caterpillar and its customers.

Our Embedded Software Engineering Rotational Development Program enhances the experience of engineering graduates transitioning from student to full-time engineer. You’ll join a team with diverse project responsibilities and have valuable networking opportunities with all levels of Caterpillar employees.

The Embedded Software Development track is a 12-18 month entry level rotational program focused on building technical abilities.

We are seeking candidates that are willing to work in either Mossville, IL , or Tucson, AZ.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and troubleshooting real-time embedded software and controls for autonomy, battery systems, engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and other machine and power system applications.
  • Developing, validating, and troubleshooting embedded software for displays and telematics utilizing Linux, C, & C++.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently attending a 4-year accredited university/college or have completed a degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science with hands on experience developing software for embedded controller, Mechanical Engineering with computer focus, or Robotics.
  • Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0/4.0 (no rounding) at current institution
  • Expected graduation date December 2021 - August 2023
  • Programming experience in C, C#, or C++ and/or Python
  • Experience programming / debugging on a microcontroller
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic hardware and software interactions on real-time systems, such as troubleshooting signal processing on Arduino or other micro-controllers.
  • Experience developing software and/or systems for autonomy systems/robotics, HMI, or sensor processing. Previous relevant experience & skillsets (clubs, competitive teams, coops, or internships -outside of the classroom). Planning, perception, positioning, and general systems development and integration.
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Must be willing to travel and relocate domestically

Top candidates will have:

  • Programming experience in Python for scripting and automation
  • Familiarity with Matlab and/or Simulink
  • Involvement with a campus design/competition team or related experience
  • Project or team leadership experience
  • Previous technical internship/co-op or relevant experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
