Organization: School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership

Title: 100% Tenure Full Time Associate Professor or Full Professor - Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership

Position Details

Position Description

The University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) invites nominations, expressions of interest, and applications for the next Dean of the School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership (SNHL). As the academic and administrative leader of the SNHL, the Dean will hold a full-time (100%) tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the school, in addition to the appointment as Dean. At UW Tacoma, all tenured faculty positions have a 9-month service period, and administrative appointments as Dean have a 12-month service period. The anticipated start date for the dean is fall 2023.

Ranked first among Master's of Nursing Programs for public schools (US News and World Report), the school enjoys a close relationship with the University of Washington Seattle and the University of Washington Bothell. Focusing on a RN-BSN, Healthcare Leadership (BA) and Master in Nursing as well as offering a minor in Health and Society for UW Tacoma students outside of the school's majors, the school supports the interdisciplinary mission of the University through teaching and scholarly inquiry. Within the overall mission of the campus, it focuses on the discovery and dissemination of knowledge that promotes health within an ethic of social justice.

One of three campuses that make up the University of Washington (UW), UW Tacoma is an urban-serving university located on the southern edge of downtown Tacoma. Home to 4,814 students, and ranked first as a top performer for social mobility in Washington (US News and World Report), the university's 46-acre footprint is located on a hillside overlooking the Port of Tacoma and Mount Rainier. UW Tacoma is also a member of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities, a network of public, urban research universities committed to creating an educated workforce, building strong communities and improving the health of diverse populations.

As a collective unit, the UW Tri-Campus Schools of Nursing are among the top schools in the nation, with rankings in the top two among public schools for their Doctor of Nursing, Master of Nursing, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The successful candidate will report to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (EVCAA), Dr. Andrew Harris and will also report to Dr. Azita Emami, the Robert G. and Jean A. Reid Executive Dean of the University of Washington School of Nursing.

The next dean will be the driver of several exciting initiatives including the establishment of a pre-licensure BSN program, as well as leading growth in graduate offerings in nursing and healthcare leadership. In addition, the next dean will be instrumental in examining current administrative and student-service processes to create a better end-user experience for students. They will lead a dynamic, research focused faculty who are leaders of impact in their fields.

The University seeks a leader who will fully embrace the urban-serving mission of UW Tacoma and guide strategic efforts to develop further the academic identity of the University in support if this mission. The next dean will be expected to manage in an urban-serving institution within a multi-campus system of higher education and will be expected to improve and promote academic excellence.
