Three or more years of experience working in Vegetation Management.

Experience in directly performing or supervising Vegetation Management activities.

Oversight of contract tree crews for work management.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point and Work Management Systems.

Certification as an arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture.

Knowledge of CPUC GO 95 Rule 35, PRC 4292 & 4293 and environmental habitat areas.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities: (does not include all possible work duties)

Performs a variety of technical tasks in the maintenance, preservation, and removal of the City's boulevard and park trees.

Recognizes and identifies trees, tree diseases, and pests; completes visual inspections of trees and their canopy.

Maintains grounds and buildings; maintains work areas in a neat, orderly, and quality manner; responsible for site clean-up.

Completes required documentation either manually or electronically including forms, records, and daily reports that are complete, accurate, clear and timely.

Development and manage the tree budget and expenditures.

Coordinates tree related efforts with the Horticulture Supervisor, Park Ecologist and Horticulture Project Manager.

Directs the pruning, removals and maintenance of trees under the care of Forest Park Forever

Provides technical information and recommendations on capital and maintenance projects design and construction.

Provide direction to large event permittees regarding tree protection.

Initiates and oversees tree removal and tree care contracts under the direction of Forest Park Forever.

Experience using computer maintenance management systems.

Tree risk assessment qualification (TRAQ certification)

Inspect trees for disease, insect infestation, pruning or other requirements.

Excellent communication and writing skills.

Good organizational and documentation skills

Five years of experience or responsible arborist-related work involving tree planning, consultation, pruning, removals, and chemical application and,

Prior tree care, landscaping, forestry, turf care, or horticulture experience is preferred but not required

$18.00 - $20.00 per hour

At least three months experience operating equipment, such as a lift, loader, bucket truck, etc.

One year experience working as a grounds man for an arborist

Six months experience working as a tree climber

Six months experience working in a public garden

Six months experience working in landscaping or a related field

Demonstrated knowledge of climbing, knots, pruning practices, and basic horticulture practices are a plus

Applies standard fertilizing practices and adjusts acid or alkaline conditions of the soil in line with plant requirements.

Arborist Certification by the International Society of Arboricultural (ISA) within 12 months of hire.

Ability to obtain flagging certification within 6 months of hire.

Ability to obtain First Aid/ CPR certification within 6 months of hire.

Two years of paid work experience including tree maintenance, grounds keeping and/or maintenance.

Basic knowledge of proper methods, techniques, and practices used in grounds maintenance.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

Five years of tree maintenance experience related to assignment

Supervises a crew assigned to tree trimming and maintenance, including conducting performance evaluations

Develops and implements tree maintenance and safety protocols; conducts training programs.

Coordinates special programs like "Adopt-a-Tree", storm preparedness, etc. Serves as liaison and consultant to other departments and agencies.

Investigates claims of damage related to trees on City property.

1-3 years of related experience in the tree care industry or prior sales experience

ISA Arborist Certification or ability to obtain – we will pay for the cost of the exam and help you prepare!

Utilizes the appropriate Work Management System to manage workload and budget.

Reviews monthly variance to determine effectiveness of vegetation management operations, identify problem areas and validate data.

Manages contractor crew activities including analyzing productivity and effectiveness of work performed.

Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Arboriculture, related discipline or equivalent experience

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in utility forestry/arboriculture or equivalent experience in related disciplines

Establishes prioritized schedules to perform work within budget guidelines.

Candidate Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

Provide excellent organizational management, leadership, and communication between client and production team.

Provide assistance in managing crew members as needed including performance management, addressing complaints, and planning, assigning or directing workload.

Monitor production (time/expenses) with Division Manager and production team and provide avenues to improve bottom line.

Manage the sales process from opportunity targeting through sale and transition to Account Manager and/or Designer.

Simple IRA with company match

Monitor Orton system of pest management utilizing indicator plants and degree-days to predict specific pest outbreaks.

Prior Arboricultural or educational experience preferred

IPM responsibilities involving herbaceous materials in Greenhouse during growing and while in annual display beds.

Holds a Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification

Apply necessary chemicals following IPM chart at proper rate, weather conditions, to target plants using proper safety procedures.

Develop and implement effective daily schedule to minimize guest interface with chemical applications.

Meeting with Managers to discuss their landscaping needs.

Assessing soil and space requirements for new trees.

Proven work experience as an arborist. (Minimum of 5 years’ experience)

Advanced knowledge of tree biology and tree anatomy.

Knowledge of soil biology and fertilizer compositions.

Aiding in the Planting of new trees or woody plants.
