Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Jobs in Iowa

Backwashes filters and enters backwash data on operating log as directed by Plant Manager.

$23.14+/hour depending on experience. Advancement opportunities are available.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent with sufficient exposure to basic math and chemistry (preferred).

Skills: Basic computer skills. Critical thinking skills, judgment and decision making.

Maintains daily treatment plant operating log.

Chemically flocculates incoming water to reduce silt, dirt, and harmful bacteria count.

Basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing skills and experience are desirable

Perform sampling and chemical treatment to meet NPDES permit discharge requirements

Two years of advanced education or training in Water Treatment, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or equivalent field of study preferred

Certification by the State of Iowa as a Grade I, or higher, Water Treatment and/or Distribution Operator preferred

Knowledge of chemistry including softening reactions, neutralization reactions, disinfection reactions, corrosion reactions, and other water treatment related processes

TN Grade 4 Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification

TN Grade 2 Water Distribution System Operator Certification; Level II Pretreatment Certification

Advanced knowledge of biological treatment systems and associated processes;

Reviews water/wastewater treatment plant needs; prepares plans for future utility upgrades and related projects; coordinates construction and repair projects.

Responds to a variety of customer inquiries and complaints; resolves complex situations.

Prepares, reviews, and approves a variety of operational records, reports, and plans.

3 years of experience in water treatment and mechanical maintenance.

High School Diploma or GED

1 year or more of technical training beyond high school in water treatment.

1 year in fabricating and industrial plumbing.

This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation.

Strong organization and time management skills with an attention to detail

Responsible to provide expert level knowledge in the field of Water Treatment (Wastewater, Cooling, Boiler Water)

Prefer at least 10 yrs Boiler, Cooler, Water, Wastewater, Water Treatment experience

10+ years’ experience in engineering, applications or sales

Strong consultation, negotiation, problem-resolution and interpersonal skills

Uses work order management system (Lucity); and

Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

Valid Texas Driver’s License applicable to job responsibilities, with an acceptable driving record.

Additional Responsibilities of Treatment Operator II

$24.09 to $29.38 per hour, depending on experience

Operates and maintains the city water treatment facilities as required by city, state, and federal guidelines;

Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors

Basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing skills and experience are desirable

Perform sampling and chemical treatment to meet NPDES permit discharge requirements

Two years of advanced education or training in Water Treatment, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or equivalent field of study preferred

Certification by the State of Iowa as a Grade I, or higher, Water Treatment and/or Distribution Operator preferred

Knowledge of chemistry including softening reactions, neutralization reactions, disinfection reactions, corrosion reactions, and other water treatment related processes

Minimum 5 years of Project Manager experience

Experience in running multiple projects at the same time

Employee will be required to work shifts (day and/or night). Shifts will be assigned by the Public Utilities Manager/Senior Manager (WTP/WWTP).
