Delivers video remote interpreting (VRI) devices to units/clinics as needed, and provides instruction on the use of the device.

2 years related healthcare experience required

Provides oral interpreting services for Texas Children's hospital areas including: inpatient, outpatient, day surgery and emergency center.

Provides oral interpreting of clinical and health care related discussions involving staff, patients, families and physicians.

Responds to interpreting assignments in an expedient and professional manner.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

Effective oral and written communication skills

Interprets patient and/or family questions or concerns to appropriate healthcare staff to optimize the patient care experience.

Requires fluency in English and target language of interpretation

Understanding of medical terminology preferred

Acts as a conduit of information for all clinical services including medical terminology and support services, policies and procedures.

Associate degree or relevant work experience in lieu of degree.

Two years of relevant experience.

2 years of hospital experience

Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Interpreter in a healthcare or health related setting. Pediatric experience preferred.

Bachelor’s degree or 2 years of experience as an Interpreter in a healthcare or health-related setting

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and target language

Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher within 30 days of employment

Bachelor’s degree in Interpretation/Translation or a related field from an accredited institution preferred.

Maintaining competency through independent study, participation in professional conferences and other continuing education programs

Complying with all hospital policies and department administrative requirements, including data collection processes

A National Certification in Medical Interpreting is preferred

Recognizing cultural differences between families and providers. Facilitating communication and bridging cultural gaps

Providing general, non-technical information to allow patients to navigate the health care system

Abiding by the professional code of ethics and standards of practice

Good interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.

Minimum of two years of college is required (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

With National Certification OR completion of a Medical Interpreting program offered at a college level:

Completion of a Medical Interpreting program offered at a college level

Strong knowledge of medical vocabulary.

Thorough knowledge of the IMIA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
