Effective knowledge of sonographic procedures and equipment.

High degree of knowledge in anatomy and physiology required.

Registered in diagnostic medical sonography in the specialty(ies) as appropriate. Registry to be obtained within one year of candidate eligibility.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider card per established policy.

Ability to use independent judgment to acquire optimum diagnostic information.

Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

ARDMS certification; maintain active status through continuing education.

Provide education to patients about procedure performed and communicate information as appropriate to patient during visualization of anatomy.

American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDS) certification required.

2 years’ previous OB/GYN or infertility experience preferred.

Images the anatomical structures in the region of interest, utilizing knowledge of gross human and sectional anatomy.

Pursues continuing education by attending department and hospital-wide programs, regional seminars, and/or college courses.

Uses the ultrasound system, instrument controls, keyboard functions, transducers, and the laser imagers.

Recognizes acoustic artifacts and takes appropriate action to reduce or eliminate them from the image.

Minimizes patient exposure to acoustic energy.

Evaluates requisitions for appropriate history and clinical information.

Two (2) years of clinical experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (DMS) in an acute care medical center, preferred.

American Heart Association (AHA) approved BLS certification required

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of & to apply the principles, theories, practices, & techniques of diagnostic medical sonography

Identifies the impact of cultural diversity & lifestyle choices on patient condition & makes accommodations for such difference

Demonstrates competence in the operation of diagnostic ultrasound equipment, real-time & mobile, to obtain quality diagnostic images
