Psychiatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner Jobs in Texas

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation.

Provide independent and collaborative primary care or specialty, comprehensive and therapeutic health care services.

Provides specialty medical care in a clinical setting under the supervision of licensed physicians working through physician approved protocols.

Secures and evaluates medical health and developmental history of the patient and provides health maintenance and anticipatory guidance.

Evaluates patients in a clinic.

Performs basic physical assessment using observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation, and percussion.

Executes physician's orders such treatments, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as prescribed in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards.

Assures quality assurance standards are met by following all guidelines of physicians, and clinic.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Administering investigational medications or providing patient education regarding administration, as necessary

Ability to properly execute research responsibilities as delegated by the Principal Investigator

Adequate technological skills to adapt to new programs, systems, or devices

Ability and comfort in working with remote personnel

Knowledge of clinical documentation practices

To maintain clinical competence in Psychiatric Nursing, participates in ongoing educational activities to enhance clinical knowledge and update requisite skills.

Independently identifies need for in-service/educational sessions and seeks experience to meet such needs and to maintain clinical skills.

Participates/leads quality improvement and/or research activities as appropriate to the individual's position, education, skills, and practice environment.

Functions without supervision in a manner appropriate for level of experience and education.

Takes initiative to share knowledge and skills willingly with colleagues, students, and novice practitioners in a collegial manner.

Demonstrates use of critical thinking skills, derives and documents appropriate diagnoses from patient and family assessment data.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, adjusting dosages as needed to achieve therapeutic outcomes while monitoring for potential side effects.

Offer counseling and support to patients' families, educating them about the patient's condition and providing strategies for assistance and coping.

Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification.

Previous experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or related mental health experience is preferred but not always required.

Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner-Clinical/Psychiatric):

Professional Nursing Experience is defined as:

Provide advanced comprehensive psychiatric nursing care for a variety of behavioral health patients.

Perform intake procedures for psychiatric patients.

Collaborate with the patient's total treatment team in order to formulate a total treatment plan.

Perform psychiatric patient observations in order to identify any significant behavior and reaction patterns.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. Facilitate patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.

Creates fresh evidence-based approaches and techniques, paying thought to research findings, core theory, and experience from practice.

Telehealth/Remote work available based on need of the clinic/program (must provide evidence of a HIPPA compliant workspace)

Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for children and adults with mental health or psychiatric conditions.

Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient's age-specific needs. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.

Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, and strategies for self-care and coping

Experience working in a psychiatric setting providing direct patient care preferred but will interview persons recently graduated

Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications, treatment modalities, and evidence-based practices

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and clinical skills

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and diagnoses of patients in collaboration with a supervising physician

Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, utilizing evidence-based interventions
