These responsibilities are specific to the Medical Office Assistant II.

If position is for Pediatrics, it requires minimum of one (1) year pediatric or equivalent experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of the sterile techniques.

Current American Heart Association BLS Certification and Medical Office Assistant Certification required.

Recognizes and responds to acute emergency situations following established procedures.

May draw up injection solutions for immediate use upon physician orders.

Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures

Knowledge of nursing theory, regulations and practices

Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance

Demonstrate communication skills, empathy, clarity and accuracy

Previous experience as RN in an office setting preferred

Visual and manual dexterity for data entry on the computer

Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes to management team

Prior experience and/or education as a Medical Assistant

Perform and document routine labs, such as throat and urine cultures (venipuncture experience preferred)

Knowledge or EKG placement and processing in children

Strong communications and organizational skills

Experience with medical records preferred

Tuition Reimbursement up to $2,000 for continuing education

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Certifications: Must maintain CPR certification

Knowledge: Knowledge of health care field and medical specialties. Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.

Performs daily checks of equipment to ensure it is in proper working order.

Follows guidelines for point-of-care testing, EKG techniques and phlebotomy.

Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.

Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care preferred.

Ability to problem-solve preferred. Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred.

EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.

4. Obtain and record patient history employing critical thinking skills.

Working knowledge of occupational medicine requirements (state specific)

Manages patient flow and volume. Keeps patients informed of expected wait times.

Previous medical office experience preferred

Outstanding customer service skills as well as the ability to deal with people in a manner which shows tact and professionalism

Demonstrated excellent customer service skills

Performs rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.)

6 months Medical Assistant experience

Completion of an MA technical program or prior MA experience

Prior successful experience in an MA position preferred but not required

Assists providers with patient care, e.g. office visits, vital signs, procedures, and sterilization of instruments.

Prepare, document and administer injections, as well as vaccine translation and temperature log.

Performs various diagnostics including venipuncture, collects lab specimens, EKG, HCG and strep tests.

Administers preventative/population health management screens and questionnaires (e.g. PHQ2 and other behavioral health screens) and records in medical record.

Utilize the care team's population health management registry or other applicable database for preventative care outreach, including:

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the groups of patients regularly served.

Prints disposition forms and patient education materials

Assists with staging selected prior authorization for medication or supplies needed under the direction of nurse manager or designee

Maintain vendor logs/relationship and informs nurse manager or designee of equipment needing service

Completion of Medical Assistant educational program or higher education courses in health sciences or related experience required
