Cardiac Monitoring and Rhythm Analysis:

Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Previous monitor observer experience preferred.

Obtain, compile, prepare and maintain records for the nursing unit assigned.

Observe cardiac rhythm of patients on monitor.

Run and post rhythm stripes at designated intervals.

Interpret rhythms and validate computer readout.

Recognizes and reports any equipment problems to management.

Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient of anxiety.

Ensures patient is screened according to protocol, and assures consent for the procedure has been obtained, when necessary.

Performs various exams according to the standards and procedures delineated by the department.

Positions patient for test according to standard operating procedures.

Adjusts immobilization and supportive devices for patients, as needed.

Experience: Certifications: CRAT certification within 1 year of hire.

Preferred Experience: Experience preferred but not mandatory.

Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern and prior variances.

Works cooperatively as part of a team.

Monitor tech course completion and/or passing score of 85% on monitor tech competency exam.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School/GED.

Starting pay for this position is $16.60/hour.

Must have completed a Medical Assistant course that includes EKG OR six months experience interpreting EKG rhythm strips.

Must demonstrate during interview the ability to interpret EKG rhythm strips.

Minimum one (1) year of experience (of at least 1,060 hours) as an EKG Technician. OR

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

Preferred certification by CCI - such as CCT or CRAT or obtain credential within 6 months

Greets patients in a pleasant and professional manner. Prepares and explains procedures to patient.

Operates EKG equipment by applying lead placements to patients.

Reviews patient's record and instructs patients prior to procedures. Monitors patient during procedures and reports any abnormal findings.

Identifies and corrects for artifacts. Edits and forwards results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.

Maintains EKG equipment and supplies.

Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Education: General knowledge normally acquired by completing a high school diploma or equivalent required.

Capable of continuous monitoring of up to 12 patients at one time.

Ability to communicate verbally, calmly and courteously in stressful situations

Ability to work Independently maintaining accuracy, consistency and maintaining patient confidentiality

Ability to pass background checks

Mercy EKG is actively seeking a full-time EKG/Special Test Technician to join our team!

Pay Range: $16.95-$24.69 per hour

Performs ECG Management System (MUSE) functions and related clerical duties. (30%)

High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Maintains testing equipment and department in clean operating condition. (10%)

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Successful completion of ECG interpretation coursework.

Prior telemetry monitoring experience/EKG monitoring in a hospital setting strongly preferred

Perform electrocardiogram (EKG) interpretations by analyzing and recording atrial and ventricular rates and rhythms.

Six months (1,000 hours) hospital EKG Technician experience.

Knowledge of various types of cardiac equipment including but not limited to EKG, Holter Monitors and Treadmill tests.

Proficient in all factors of EKGs, Stress Testing Treadmills and Stress Echos both in lab or bedside.

This is a part time position, days and hours may vary

This is a temporary position for approximately for 6 months, rotating weekends and holidays, floats within established seniority section.

Assists with the answering of unit telephones patient call lights and/or visitor inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.

Keeps assigned work area neat and clean at all times. Provides for the safe and proper disposal of monitor batteries.

Related training required through work experience and education.

Initiates, discontinues and maintains telemetry monitoring as ordered: admitting or

Discharging patient to monitor, changing batteries, electrodes, and cleaning equipment.

Reviews alarm trends at the end of the shift, reporting/"hand off" to the oncoming shift.

Records telemetry strip every 4 hours and gives the strip to the RN.
