Lab Animal Technician Jobs

Animal Technician II: Six months experience as an Animal Technician I or equivalent.

Good verbal and written English communication skills.

Animal Technician I:High school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions that are presented in English.

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment including scrubs, gloves, shoe covers, gowns, ear plugs / muffs, face mask, and eye protection.

At least 2 years of experience in small animal veterinary medicine, preferably in a specialty hospital

Recording and documents all service/patient related communications, and patient care treatments utilizing appropriate veterinary terminology

Collaborating closely with DVMs and coworkers

Cleaning and upkeep as needed

Team player, ability to collaborate

Performs physical assessments and develops diagnostic sampling and therapeutic management proposal of cases.

Establishes management protocol and initiates treatment.

Annual Salary Range: $94,375.00 - $153,355.00 (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Supervises animal health technician(s), monitors schedule and assures coverage of responsibilities.

Manages ARP and IACUC veterinary medical and surgical programs to assure the health, well-being and humane care of research animals.

Work Arrangement (final schedule to be determined by the department/hiring manager)

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, California Registered Veterinary Technician license and laboratory animal experience.

Experience performing outreach and/or education.

Bachelor's degree in another field and one year of qualifying inspection experience or administrative experience in an animal health-related field; OR

High school diploma (or GED) and four years of qualifying inspection experience or administrative experience in an animal health-related field.

Experience relating to interpreting or enforcing laws and regulations.

Experience conducting site inspections or investigations.

Experience providing information to customers regarding registration, licensing, or applications.

Cleans and sanitizes small and large animal rooms, pens and cages (including racks).

Ensures all animals have adequate food and water at all times.

Assists the Animal Technologist in the daily visual examination of all animals.

Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Achieve Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from AALAS within 1 year of beginning employment.

Two years of experience with animals in any capacity.

Able and willing to attend required personal hygiene and personal safety training on an annual basis for certification.

Provide coverage of the duties of laboratory animal caretakers/cagewash staff as needed.

Provide feed, water, clean cages, and enrichment devices for conventional, BSL-2and BSL-3 animals in a safe and sanitary manner.
