Juvenile Detention Center Shift Lead Jobs

Required Credentials, License, and / or Certifications:

Completion of accredited nurse program.

PRN position. Hours can range anywhere between 6 am - 9 pm

Assists students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.

Helps manage the behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.

Works with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.

Assists teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.

Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.

Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment.

Responds to out of control/violent detainee situations (both verbal and physical), providing behavioral and crisis management skills;

Nevada Southern Detention Center is in Pahrump, NV, approximately 60 miles outside of Las Vegas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Basic knowledge of institutional programming techniques for delinquent juveniles.

Basic knowledge of various treatment and rehabilitative modalities.

Skill in establishing rapport with a variety of treatment professionals, staff and juveniles.

Experienced in providing leadership to organize and supervise the activities of a group.

One or more years direct case management experience working with offenders or families in social work setting.

Support of the delivery of all programs & case management services and substance abuse services (RYDCs only) in assigned facilities.

One or more years of experience working with juvenile offenders in detention facilities or other at-risk youths in group home programs.

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess the following:

Works with program staff to ensure that services are following best practices and departmental policy.

Conducts rounds daily on the living unit to ensure youth needs are identified and addressed.

Will utilize behavior management skills including discipline and rewards at appropriate times

Minimum Education and Experience Required to Perform Essential Functions:

Will assist the juveniles in recognizing and maintaining good personal hygiene skills

Responsible for being knowledgeable of all laws and rules governing juvenile detention and receiving

Must be knowledgeable of the Iowa Juvenile Code (chapter 232) and the Iowa Code as it applies to the Facility

Will be familiar with basic counseling skills and techniques including good listening and communication skills

Maintains required certification and minimum number of training hours in order to remain effective in the facility’s evidenced-based practices and procedures.

This position’s physical requirements require regular stamina in sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, twisting, bending, stooping/crouching, kneeling, lifting, and carrying.

This position performs heavy work requiring the ability to exert more than 50 pounds of force in the physical requirements above.

Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner, change focus on projects as needed and multitask.
