Job Description
Introduction

The Prince William County, Department of Social Services is looking for a Detention Center Superintendent for the Molinari Juvenile Shelter. The Molinari Juvenile Shelter is a 15-bed, non-secure facility for court-involved youth located near Manassas, Virginia, serving Prince William County, and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. ABOUT THE ROLE:
In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of our program and make a lasting impact on the lives of the youth in our care. You will manage all aspects of the shelter’s day-to-day operations and implement trauma-informed and evidence-informed practices. You will be responsible for overall program management, leadership, and administration as well as policy development/implementation and data collection/analysis. You will manage a staff of 20 professionals who oversee a positive resident behavior management program that provides juveniles with a safe and supportive living environment. The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in a supervisory and/or management role in a residential setting. The candidate must be familiar with the Virginia juvenile justice system and able to interpret and apply the policies and regulations that govern local juvenile group homes. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively with agency partners, school personnel, court services staff, social services staff, internal and external physical and behavioral health providers, and parents of the youth in residence.
The Prince William Department of Social Services has a staff of over 500 who serve the community through adult and child-welfare programs, public benefits distribution, and homeless prevention services. MINIMUM EDUCATION,
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work, behavioral science or other related human services field plus four years of related experience.


PREFERENCES:
Experience supervising and managing staff in a residential setting. Experience with facilities management. Demonstrated competencies in organizational skills, problem-solving and communication. The ability to model and teach positive decision-making and anger management skills. Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
M-F 40 hours per week. Must be flexible, able, and available to step in and work during sudden staff absences and weather emergencies. The Shelter is open 24/7/365.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must pass criminal history, child protective services and DMV background checks. Must satisfactorily complete an entrance physical and be able to perform “Handle with Care,” CPR, and other life saving measures.
All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept. of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $90,688.00 - $121,988.00 Annually

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
