To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Vacancies are located on Hawaii Island, Kauai, Maui and Oahu

SALARY: $5,100 per month (CO-04)

Mandatory overtime may be required.

Graduation from high school or GED

The legal (Constitutional) right to carry a firearm

One year of experience working in a children's services facility (volunteer experience and practicum or intern experience may be considered)

Ensure juveniles adhere to Juvenile Service Center rules and guidelines

Supervise recreational activities and assist with serving meals

Serve as role model for juveniles; encourage and assist juveniles in the practice of proper hygiene

Adhere to all laws (such as the Prison Rape Elimination Act), rules, and Center policies and procedures

Follow rules, regulations, and guidelines asset forth in the Centers manual and as directed by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Finance Officer - Juvenile Court Clerk

Performs various complex professional finance functions.

Handles routine complaints and questions regarding professional finance related issues.

May perform accounting, auditing, compliance, budgeting, purchasing, investing and other professional finance functions as assigned.

Contributes to the ongoing development of the programme management and evaluation framework for corrections in peacekeeping.

Prepares talking points, background and briefing notes for DPO headquarters, and contributes to reports by the Secretary-General.

Provides operational and strategic support and advice to field staff; organizes briefing visits of senior field staff to headquarters.

Participates in all aspects of recruitment for professional staff, support staff and interns.

Engages with other relevant entities in the Secretariat and counterparts at Agencies, Funds and Programmes.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Maintain a working knowledge of the Department Transportation Standards policy to properly complete transports.

Use appropriate de-escalation skills during stressful and potentially dangerous situations.

Maintain certification for Taser equipment.

At least one (1) year experience as a Corrections & Custody Officer.

Remote/telework/flexible schedules (depending on position)

Attend all required training and maintain certifications, as required.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Sheriff's Office responsibilities and ability to use independent judgment in the performance of duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Knowledge of and ability to enforce and apply departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and general orders

Knowledge of the use of Sheriff's Office records and their application to the solution of problem issues

Coordinate, direct and monitor the daily activities of juveniles in the Holdover Facility.

Computer and word processing skills.

Completion of both Field Training and Academy - $1,000

Completion of Probationary Period - $2,000

Completion of Field Training - $1,000

All new hires on or after July 17, 2023 will receive a $3000 hiring bonus.

High School graduate or GED equivalent

Must be at least 19 years of age, of good moral character

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving immoral character or any felony

Knowledge of Chapter 232, criminal law, and other related laws, including confidentiality, education, juvenile mental health, and juvenile substance abuse.

Ability to adapt to changing job performance requirements.

Knowledge of normal adolescent development and family systems, substance abuse, and mental health conditions.

Ability to effectively use motivational interviewing skills and engage youth and their families.

Ability to become knowledgeable of and network with system stakeholders in a collaborative manner.

Ability to distinguish criminogenic domains and needs, while providing skill building with youths under supervision.

Complete required assessments, screenings, and evaluations.

Determine appropriate placement recommendations to assure that youth is placed in the least restrictive placement available and within the legal guidelines.

Coordinates placements and serves as a liaison between placement and other agencies.

Notifies parents/guardian of youths placement.

Provide the Director, County Attorney and/or DCF with a recommendation of action supported by documentation.

Makes referrals to the Immediate Intervention Program.

Oversees juveniles during work assignments, meals, and recreation periods.

Guards facility entrances for the screening of visitors.

Inspects, inventories and maintains control of key logs, tools, and related equipment.

Patrols assigned areas and report any problems. Prepares facility related reports.

2.5% for one year of active duty service

5% for two years of active duty service
