One year of experience in infection prevention, ambulatory care services, medical or scientific laboratory or related field such as public health

Assists in monitoring compliance with the Joint Commission IP requirements, CMS COP, and State and Federal regulations.

Ad hoc information and teaching done on rounds. Teach New Employee Orientation as skills are developed as assigned.

This is an entry level position and education may substitute. ( e.g. MPH with focus on epidemiology)

2 years of experience in an acute care facility

Experience of 2-5 years direct clinical patient care or experience in healthcare related field.

Functions as an integral part of quality/performance improvement initiatives

Collaborates with Employee Health in evaluation employee exposures to communicable disease and supports coordination of appropriate follow up.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Provides additional knowledge, support and input to identify environmental issues to reduce the risk of infections related to the environment

Registered Nurse with licensure in State of Florida or experienced (2 years or more) Infection Preventionist with MPH degree

Reviews, analyzes and applies existing standards and/or guidelines of applicable professional organizations, accreditation organizations, regulatory and governmental agencies

Reviews microbiological data daily for significant findings and advises appropriate personnel as necessary regarding significant findings

Apply epidemiologic principles and statistical methods to identify trends and risk factors, designs and evaluates prevention and control strategies

Generates and analyzes surveillance data using standardized definitions and basic statistical techniques. Reports outcomes.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and abilities

Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or health/science field or equivalent experience preferred

Several year’s professional experience as a hospital infection preventionist, healthcare epidemiologist, or healthcare quality direction preferred but not required

In depth knowledge of HAI prevention practices, and hospital based HAI surveillance, using National Healthcare Safety Network protocols and analysis preferred

Competence with computer and application skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Certification in infection control and epidemiology preferred, or ability to receive certification in these areas within 3 months of hire

Two years clinical experience in a hospital setting or disease surveillance experience in a public health setting highly preferred.

Makes recommendations when problems are identified. Interprets department policies and procedures in conjunction with the Manager.

Interacts with physicians, nurses, department managers, supervisors, and other professional and nonprofessional staff members as a consultant.

Assists with continuing infection control education and in-service programs to departments, including orientation for new employees.

Requires Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in nursing or other related healthcare field.
