Overview A Highway Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of highways, roads, and bridges. They inspect, repair, and maintain highways, roads, and bridges to ensure safe and efficient travel for the public. They may also be responsible for the installation and maintenance of traffic signs and signals. Detailed Job Description Highway Maintenance Technicians are responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining highways, roads, and bridges. They inspect roads and bridges for signs of wear and tear, and make necessary repairs. They also inspect and maintain traffic signs and signals, and ensure that they are in working order. They may also be responsible for the installation of new traffic signs and signals. They may also be responsible for the maintenance of roadside vegetation, such as trees and shrubs. Job Skills Required Highway Maintenance Technicians must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills. They must be able to work independently and as part of a team. They must also have a good understanding of safety regulations and procedures. They must be able to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams. They must also have a good understanding of construction and engineering principles. Job Qualifications Highway Maintenance Technicians must have a high school diploma or equivalent. They must also have a valid driver’s license. They must have experience in the construction and maintenance of highways, roads, and bridges. They must also have experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic signs and signals. Job Knowledge Highway Maintenance Technicians must have a good understanding of construction and engineering principles. They must also have a good understanding of safety regulations and procedures.
