Equipment Mechanic Trainee Jobs in New York

Previous experience as a mechanic in diesel engine repair and service

Experience with hydraulic/hydrostatic systems and electrical systems and troubleshooting

Experience operating a Bobcat or similar compact construction equipment

Diagnose and repair equipment as needed

Thorough operational knowledge and skills of specific equipment to be operated, including inspection equipment.

Must be knowledgeable of occupational hazards and standard safety practices in the heavy equipment industry.

Must be knowledgeable of OSHA regulations specific to the machining industry.

Experience in operating a forklift, crane and overhead hoist.

Technical School or Certification in Industrial Maintenance

5-10 years of combined experience in mechanics and repairer trades, precision production trades

Must have strong communication skills and have a high level of self-management

5 years experience as a heavy equipment mechanic required

Minimum five (5) years’ experience in troubleshooting and repair of Heavy Construction Equipment required, Caterpillar experience strongly preferred

Minimum five (5) years’ experience in troubleshooting

Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm; overtime availability required

Some experience or expertise in piping, HVAC equipment and controls

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and maintenance software tools.

Formal instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, and/or AEM training and demonstrated experience

Mechanical equipment repair training and/or demonstrated experience: pumps, mechanical seals, agitators, gear boxes, fans (bearings, sheaves), alignment

Demonstrate effective analytical troubleshooting skills

Knowledge of Lock Out / Tag Out

The Open Eligibility List will consist of external applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and successfully complete any required selection processes.

Separate Promotional and Open (external) Eligibility Lists will be established.

The hiring department will consider the Promotional Eligibility List prior to considering candidates on the Open Eligibility List.

Diagnoses and repairs electrical system faults/failures.

Performs routine preventative maintenance on all types of vehicles and equipment in the City's fleet.
