University Title: RESEARCH SPECIALIST I

Use and knowledge of the FARO 3D Laser Mapping System.

Knowledge of modern criminal investigation methods and criminal identification techniques

Knowledge of methods used in preserving and collecting physical evidence and the use of such evidence in establishing guilt.

Knowledge of police photograph (black/white and color), and the processing thereof.

Knowledge of modern fingerprinting and fingerprint classification techniques and procedures.

Knowledge of law enforcement regulations and procedures and of controlling laws and ordinances.

May review the work of lower Forensic Technicians and provide training and lead direction to lesser-experienced technicians.

Search for, collect, and preserve evidence at crime scenes for laboratory analysis; photograph crime scenes, collisions, suspects, and evidence collected.

Develop and preserve latent fingerprints using various techniques; identify and compare fingerprints.

Collect, preserve, and attempt to evaluate or identify evidence such as blood, hair, fibers, cloth, wood, paint, and glass fragments.

Take and compare physical impressions to attempt to connect evidence with suspect.

Interview witnesses as to location of evidence and for details in order to create composite drawings of suspects.

Three (3) years of law enforcement or investigative support experience with a municipal, county, state, or federal regulatory agency.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

High school diploma or GED.

Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Must pass extensive background investigation.

Must pass polygraph and drug screening.

Prepare reagents and assist in maintaining chemical inventories.

Perform and document quality control checks of critical reagents and supplies.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of related laboratory instrumentation, computer software, calibration, validation, quality control, safety, accreditation, proficiency testing, and training.

Knowledge of international forensic laboratory accreditation standards.

Complete discipline specific training program.

Clean and sterilize laboratory utensils, equipment, and facilities.

Participate in quality assurance/quality control measures.
