Schedule: Full Time Day Shift

Hospital: Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital

Set up and adjust all imaging equipment and manually maneuver transducers to perform exams.

Implement safety standards and perform appropriate quality control procedures.

Education/Experience Preferred: At least two years experience in an acute care setting

Associates Degree in Cardiac Sonography. Five years of Cardiac Sonographer experience may be considered in lieu of the degree

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS: Registry-eligible upon hire: Must become registered with the RDCS (AE) credential within two year of hire.

Reviews inpatient chart prior to exam to gather pertinent symptoms and history of the patient.

Interviews the outpatient for symptoms and cardiac history.

Prepares patient for procedure by assisting/placing patient in proper imaging position and explaining exam.

A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.

Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians when required, according to established procedures.

Provides proper documentation for each patient exam.

Assists cardiologists with performing Transesophageal Echo studies and stress echo studies.

Certificate, Associate's degree or higher in Medical Sonography required upon hire OR

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

License/Certifications: Must be trained in CPR with a valid card.

Knowledge of ultrasound techniques, procedures and equipment as well as ability to identify pathologies.

Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail

Analytical ability to identify and characterize pathology, appropriately image pathology and identify areas requiring further testing. Must analyze quality of scan.

Must be able to use printers, fax, phone and multiple computer programs.

Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated basic computer skills including typing. Experience performing mathematical and scientific calculations. (R)

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (R)

One to two years of experience as an Echo Tech (P)

Greater than 900 clinical hours of documented echo scanning in combination with a RDCS or RCS Registry certification (R)

Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to explain technical procedures and results to patients in user-friendly manner. (R)

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or higher education.

Travels to other institutions as required for training/certification for research studies.

Appropriate professional certification (ARDMS, RVT or equivalent).

At least one year of ultrasound experience in acquiring echocardiographic and vascular ultrasound data for research purposes.

Working knowledge of cardiac ultrasound equipment and procedures.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

2. Six months experience in Echocardiography, Phonocardiography or equivalent related experience preferred.

Uses procedural data obtained and impression formed to evaluate Cardiovascular disease both functionally and anatomically.

Conducts clinical evaluations on patients; analyzes and interprets test results and determines if additional tests are required for diagnostic accuracy.

Performs qualitative and quantitative real-time 2-D Echocardiograms with Doppler and Color Flow,

Discusses clinical and diagnostic findings with medical staff and may occasionally communicate findings to attending and/or referring physicians.

Operates and maintains testing equipment, instruments and supplies consistent with established standards.

Completes appropriate paper work and database requirements for each test

Completed Cardiac Sonographer program and eligible for “Registry” certification

Experience: Less than 2 years worked as a cardiac sonographer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Attends required staff meetings and ensures ensuring continuing education requirements met to support professional growth and certification.

Ability to thoroughly, and efficiently, evaluate pathology following current guidelines (American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), American College of Cardiology (ACC), etc.).

Assist in the reaccreditation process and quality improvement program for the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Echocardiography (IAC-Echo).

Analyze patient’s medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures.

Communicates technical and patient care related information according to established processes and timelines

Respond to patient questions about procedures and equipment prior to starting the imaging process.

Any Echocardiography related certification issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification

Assists in training student technologists, interns/residents, and Cardiac Sonographers in sonography procedures;

Performs cardiac ultrasounds, including transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), and bubble studies;

Assists physician with the performance of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) procedures;

Performs contrast, dobutamine stress, and exercise stress echocardiography procedures;

National certification/registry is maintained. Competency in the use of all department equipment and performance of all department procedures is demonstrated.

Associates in Science - Required

Bachelors in Science - Preferred

1 Year Program Internship - Required

ARDMS or CCI registration completed within one year of employment. BLS - Required.

Performs transthoracic echocardiograms, assists physician with stress testing and transesophogeal echocardiograms in accordance with IAC and lab standards.

Providing age specific care, education, and imaging procedures in conjunction with other members of the defined health care team.

Adhering to safety standards and regulatory requirements; participates in QC and PI activities.

Maintaining own clinical competency and mandatory requirements.

Imaging experience in a hospital or clinic setting

Knowledge of patient focused care delivery
