The skills to write quick, clean and accurate stories on deadline

A deep interest in covering politics. Prior experience covering California politics and government is desired but not required

Report and write daily stories on major political developments in California

Closely monitor major storylines and political figures in Sacramento and statewide

Helm our California Playbook PM newsletter, working with politics and policy reporters, and contribute reported items for other newsletters

Stake out key legislative meetings and interview lawmakers and others in the state Capitol

Four years minimum experience preferred including prior news reporting and anchoring.

Working knowledge of television news photography and technology.

Creativity, resourcefulness, strong storytelling and organizational skills desired.

Knowledge of the Rochester area is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

The ability to effectively anchor from the studio as well as conduct interviews and gather information in the field.

At least 2 years of professional work experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience

Must be a skilled reporter with outstanding communication skills.

Experience working in a digital-first newsroom or news environment

Expertise in writing SEO headlines

Writing clean, fast and accurate copy, headlines and photo and video captions

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience

3+ years working in a newsroom environment, breaking news experience preferred

Must be a skilled writer with outstanding communication skills

Write concise, compelling takes on the day’s breaking and trending news

Collaborate across editorial and platform teams to optimize reader engagement

Contribute to MSNBC live blogs as needed

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience

3+ years working in a newsroom environment, breaking news experience preferred

**Salary Range: $65,000K-$75,000K (contingent upon experience)**
