Breaking News Reporter, Sports

The Messenger is a new digital media company, launching May 15th 2023, whose mission it is to deliver accurate, balanced, non-partisan reporting across every subject, from news, politics and business to sports and entertainment.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sports Breaking News Reporter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports and the ability to report breaking news in a fast-paced, accurate, and engaging manner.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with other writers and editors to ensure high-quality content
• Conduct research and interviews to provide depth and context to breaking sports news
• Write concise and engaging articles on breaking sports news for digital and other platforms
• Stay up-to-date with the latest news and trends in the world of sports
• Work under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment
• Monitor news feeds and social media for breaking sports news
• Develop and maintain relationships with sources and experts in the sports industry
• Quickly and accurately report on breaking sports news

Requirements:

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines
• Knowledge of AP style and experience with content management systems is a plus
• Minimum of 2 years of reporting experience, preferably in sports journalism or a related field
• Strong knowledge of various sports and the ability to report on them in a timely and accurate manner

**Salary Range: $65,000-85,000**
