Overview An Associate Merchant is a retail professional who is responsible for the selection and purchasing of merchandise for a retail store. They are responsible for researching and analyzing trends in the retail industry, selecting products that meet the store’s needs, and negotiating prices with vendors. Associate Merchants must be knowledgeable about the products they are purchasing and must be able to identify trends in the retail industry.
