Assistant Curator For Collections Research And Engagement Jobs

Participate in the development of new collections care and data management practices.

Assist with production of materials for interpretation, education, development, and marketing/communications staff.

As requested, purchase supplies and assist with tracking expenses.

Assist with object condition reporting and artwork installation as requested.

Contribute to social media program and preparation of materials for publicity and promotion.

Collaborate effectively with staff and departments in Museum, FAC, and College, including interns and student workers.

Undergraduate degree in a life science or related discipline (such as Public Health, Global Health, Biology, Emergency Management, etc.)

Continuing education benefits (after 6 months of employment at the beginning of the year)

Additional Skills and Experience (desired but not required):

Provide status updates to project managers and team members and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams

Apply basic Section 508 compliance requirements to documents’ development

U.S. citizenship is required due to government client requirements

5+ years experience working in a curatorial and/or museum education role

In-depth knowledge of best museum practices and AAM guidelines as they pertain to collections and curatorial work.

Conduct research on and oversee the collections of Painting, Sculpture, Decorative Arts, and Works on Paper

Develop original, well-researched content for interpretive materials, permanent collection exhibitions, text for website, social media, and presentations where appropriate

Organize exhibitions from Cheekwood’s permanent collection that relate to the mission and increase awareness of the collection

Evaluate and prioritize conservations needs for the collections

Processes gifts of works of art with the Collections Manager and corresponds with donors accordingly;

Reviews and process incoming and outgoing loan requests and evaluate all related forms with the Collections Manager;

Provides specialized knowledge of the bequests and wills of donors;

Works collaboratively with Collections Manager to digitize the collection and make it searchable to the public online;

Conducts primary research on the College’s permanent collection with the involvement of student research assistants;

Assesses and responds to routine correspondence and inquiries regarding the permanent collections and the related policies;
