Job Description
Oversees creative and administrative curatorial responsibilities for the Museum with the purpose of creating a welcoming and engaging environment for all visitors. Manages educational programming designed to engage a diversity of in-person and online audiences of varying ages and interests. Engages with college students and faculty to promote the Museum as a vibrant part of the curriculum.


This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $60,953.75-$76,205.08


Core Responsibilities:


  • Provides curatorial leadership by working collaboratively to develop rigorous exhibitions—using works from the Museum’s collection and loaned objects—which promote diverse and equitable representation and engage and support the academic curriculum. Encourages and guides faculty curated exhibitions. Oversees regular rotation of the Museum’s permanent collection. Produces associated didactic texts, digital content, grant applications, and publicity materials. 
  • Supervises the Events & Programs Coordinator. Oversees the Reiff undergraduate intern and supervises his/her annual gallery talk.
  • Leads collection stewardship by making recommendations for the acquisition of works of art in accordance with the Museum’s Collections Development Plan. In conjunction with the Museum’s director, defines strategic areas of growth, as well as deaccessions. Conducts original research and scholarship related to the Museum’s collection and exhibitions.
  • Maintains active relationships with artists, community members, lenders, donors, professional colleagues, and college faculty. Represents the MCMA at regional arts initiatives and events. 
  • Leads and supports Museum colleagues in the shared work of ensuring that principles of DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion) inform all aspects of our operations.
  • Oversees all aspects of Museum’s education and events programming. Offers or coordinates all public programs, such as the annual the Purchase Party, exhibition-related talks and symposia, and other events of interest to the College community, the Friends of Art, and the wider community.
  • Facilitates the use of the Museum’s collection by faculty across the college curriculum. Collaborates with Museum staff on visit logistics. Leads or co-leads Museum visits as necessary. 


Requirements


Position Prerequisites:


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • 5+ years experience working in a curatorial and/or museum education role
  • Gallery and/or classroom teaching experience
  • Ph.D in Art History or related field
  • Demonstrated experience managing coworkers and a commitment to collaboration

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
