Aquaculture Specialist Jobs

Minimum 5 years’ experience in program management and cross-divisional team management

Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate concurrent projects and coordinate work with external collaborators

Maintain sufficient understanding of government aquaculture policy and management in key producer countries to inform market intervention opportunities;

Bachelor’s degree in aquaculture management and sustainability, marine conservation, market-based conservation, or equivalent

Understanding of ecosystems approaches to natural resource management and habitat protection and regeneration.

Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on biological science, conservation biology, wildlife management or related fields.

Assist in providing Aquaculture Education and Outreach for the West Coast Region requested by the RAC and the Branch Chief.

Assist in developing aquaculture outreach and education tools, including assisting with a quarterly aquaculture newsletter.

Knowledge of the Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Magnuson Stevens Act, and National Environmental Policy Act.

General understanding of NEPA to review and comment on NEPA analyses in accordance with the requirements of NEPA.

Computer skills including basic word processing, spreadsheet creation and manipulation.

Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on biological science, conservation biology, wildlife management or related fields.

Mechanical aptitude, Spanish speaking, knowledge of boats/boating are welcome but not required.

Must be willing to work, we are mechanized but there is still labor involved.

Must be able to lift eighty pounds.

A typical day starts at 6am and ends at 3pm with a one-hour break.

Sometimes we will be working at our shop in Quonset, North Kingstown.

Must be willing to work in all-weather elements.

Demonstrated leadership, organizational skills and problem solving abilities.

Understanding of the complex relationships among federal, state, and tribal resource management authorities in Washington.

Experience working with diverse aquaculture producers, demonstrating effective engagement, one-on-one technical assistance and training.

Experience with aquaculture farm work.

Mayan dialect and/or Spanish language skills.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with people from a wide variety of social and educational backgrounds.

Performing and recording daily animal health and welfare observations, communicating adverse findings to the ARP manager and Specialist II.

Performing daily oversight and operation of aquaculture systems and communicating any problems to the ARP Manager or Specialist II.

Work requires the 2-3 years of experience working in an aquaculture environment.

Feeding the populations of fish the proper type and amount of food, depending on life stage and experimental application.

Performing various husbandry tasks, including spawning, in-vitro fertilization, and other procedures that involve the handing of fish.
