Animal Shelter Technician Jobs

Animal Technician II: Six months experience as an Animal Technician I or equivalent.

Good verbal and written English communication skills.

Animal Technician I:High school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions that are presented in English.

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment including scrubs, gloves, shoe covers, gowns, ear plugs / muffs, face mask, and eye protection.

Perform data entry and documentation to update animal records.

Listen to patrons and provide information about adoptions, reclaims, relinquishments and other service. Provide humane education in a non-judgmental, supportive manner.

Represent Riverdale Animal Shelter in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Working knowledge of animal welfare preferred.

Knowledge of breed identification in both canines and felines preferred.

Use discretion and good judgment. Manage highly sensitive situations with calm and professionalism.

Excellent communication skills and consistent ability to model and facilitate open and productive communication in the workplace.

Lead and direct the Population management function to ensure the highest level of care is delivered to the League’s sheltered animals.

Develop, train, and schedule Population Management team and function to ensure the most efficient movement of animals in the League’s care.

Manage cross-training and certification processes for appropriate partner departments to support sustained efficiency through seasonal workload.

Five years of related work including experience leading the work of others and progressively complex project or program leadership responsibilities.

Inform and monitor the departmental budgets. Manage utilization of department resources to maximize the value, control expenses, and minimize waste.

Obtain and maintain required certification to perform duties of euthanasia technician, holder and trainer

Meet all requirements of membership to the disaster response team

Maintain safe animal handling skills, including the ability to handle dangerous/fractious animals

Provide appropriate content to development, marketing, communications, and education teams

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Sound financial skills to manage shelter operations within approved budget and handle procurements for the Shelter’s needs.

Manages, performs or assists in the euthanasia of animals including maintaining proper documentation and policy methodology.

Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of managing an animal facility.

Ensures staff can accurately identify animal health issues, identify and provide appropriate treatments and rehabilitative care.

Implements operations policies and procedures while coordinating and inspecting daily work activities.

Completes monthly, quarterly, yearly and biannual reports and records as required by regulating authorities.

Demonstrated leadership and/or management skills. Experience with volunteer management preferred

Prior experience with donor management and grant writing

Manage donor database and ensure timely acknowledgements.

Experience with creating written or visual content for newsletters, manuals, blogs, websites, social media posts, educational, and/or marketing materials preferred

Proficient in Microsoft Office software and donor management systems

Identify and assist with grant proposals and grant reporting requirements

A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

One year of in-person customer service work experience

Cultivate positive client, volunteer, and coworker relations through professional, courteous, and educational interactions

Create and maintain necessary animal records and performs data entry

Assist clients with the animal adoption process and facilitate client/animal interactions to ensure a safe and pleasant experience

Perform supply inventory and assist with maintenance of equipment.

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, California Registered Veterinary Technician license and laboratory animal experience.
