Job Description
Job Responsibilities

This part-time position performs a variety of technical animal care and clerical support functions at the Kent County Animal Shelter. Work involves clerical duties including but not limited to answering phones, assisting clients, as well as animal care including but not limited to the feeding, providing daily enrichment and conducting limited physical examination of animals.

Duties require frequent clerical duties, observation of animals for any signs of physical illness or injury and maintaining the kennels/cages and surrounding areas in a clean, sanitary condition. Work processes require the application of substantive and procedural knowledge of internal and external rules, regulations, requirements and protocols related to the work of the animal shelter.

This position is part-time and will average about 20 hours per week. While a set schedule has not been determined, this position will require some weekend and evening hours.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bilingual ability preferred.
  • Must possess considerable knowledge of animal handling and the ability to handle animals of a vicious nature. Must have the ability to lift/carry heavy and awkward animals, large barrels and sacks of kennel supplies weighing up to approximately 60 lbs.
  • Requires: High school diploma or equivalent along with one year of experience in the care and feeding of animals and one year of successful clerical experience.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy, including some familiarity with word-processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Must possess effective communication skills, both oral and written along with the ability to positively interact with clients from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
