Job Overview:

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading non-sectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection, and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. The IRC opened in Baltimore in 1999 and currently resettles or provides assistance to approximately 2,500 refugees and immigrants each year. The youth services coordinator is responsible for providing some direct case management and overseeing youth programs that serve approximately 200 humanitarian youth (ages 0-24) each year. The youth services coordinator oversees program delivery; supervises a team of youth caseworkers, youth success specialists, and interns; and serves as a liaison between IRC, relevant schools, partners, agencies and families.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervise youth caseworkers, youth success specialists and youth case management interns.
  • Contribute to youth program development and organizational growth, strategic planning, outreach and advocacy activities and events as needed.
  • Provide direct case management to a portion of the youth program caseload, including developing individual service plans, facilitating school enrollments, referring to program partners, conducting home visits, etc.
  • Maintain and provide quality control for accurate and timely client case notes, referrals and case files as required by program guidelines.
  • Develop presentations and provide individual and group trainings to school staff on topics related to refugee resettlement and specific educational needs of humanitarian immigrants.
  • Coordinate services with program partners (Refugee Youth Project, Soccer Without Borders, IRC Refugee Youth Mentor Program) and develop referral systems and collaborative partnerships with other agencies in the community as needed.
  • Develop curriculum and facilitate school orientations for students and parents on topics such as the U.S. educational system, school culture, roles and responsibilities, U.S. laws, and safety.
  • Oversee case management services to youth ages 0-24, ensuring compliance with grant requirements on necessary documentation, service plans, case documentation and outcome measurement.


Job Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills, including writing skills and giving presentations.
  • Two or more years of progressively responsible experience working with at-risk youth, specifically in the context of educational and social programs.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable access to a vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout Baltimore.
  • Fluency in English required. Fluency in a second language (Arabic, Burmese, Farsi, French, Nepali, Spanish, Swahili) preferred.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft applications, web-based databases and applications.
  • Demonstrated ability working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and fast-paced, multi-cultural environment.


Preferred experience & skills:

  • Experience in case management and working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred.
  • Experience supervising staff, interns and volunteers strongly preferred.


Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • Some weekend and/or evening work will be required.[TP1]
