Job Description

Description/Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating with the BCCC RYP program at Furley Elementary School or other school(s) as assigned. Responsibilities include managing student attendance, scheduling dinner and activities, managing volunteers and instructors, following student record keeping processes and procedures, and coordinating with BCCC staff.

Instructors will be required to attend an orientation one week prior to the program start date either via Zoom or in person.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Integrate community volunteers into the classroom, supervising and utilizing their presence effectively
  • Schedule activities, classes, and dinner for participants
  • Assist in enrichment programming and supplementing academic instructions students
  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of classrooms and other spaces
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times; adhere to all CDC and City School protocols regarding Covid-19
  • Attend trainings, events, and meetings for after school programs (occasionally outside of regular hours)
  • Manage the Furley Elementary RYP program site and liaise with BCCC Refugee Program Manager
  • Keep records for program in accordance with requirements
  • Maintain punctuality, attendance, and provide notification to supervising staff when appropriate
  • Liaise with BCCC Refugee Program Manager to maintain ties with refugee families and provide support when necessary

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Knows the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures as it relates to student advancement for the division and the college at large. Is sensitive to the interrelationship of both people and functions within the department.

Decision Making:

  • On a regular basis, exercises judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people and quality of services within the functional area.

Communication:

  • Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate. Require good oral and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to move about.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arms in any direction.
  • Sitting in normal seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of professional work experience.
  • Experience working with and supervising volunteers a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail required.
  • Experience working with youth with limited English skills preferred.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment a plus.
