About WSM


WorkSource Montgomery, Inc. (WSM) is a nonprofit organization and fiduciary agent for Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act funding in Montgomery County. The non-profit organization operates the American Job Centers in Wheaton and Germantown and provides employment services to county residents who are unemployed or underemployed. Additionally, WSM engages employers in various industries throughout the county to ensure that their workforce needs are being met.


Position Overview


WorkSource Montgomery is looking for a Work Experience Coordinator responsible for coordinating and overseeing the placement of youth with employers in work experience, apprenticeship, and employment opportunities. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in work experience contracts and/or apprenticeships. This position will be developing and maintaining relationships with businesses to facilitate youth opportunities.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Develop partnerships with employers to facilitate work experience opportunities.
  • Works in collaboration with the Business Services team to identify appropriate work sites.
  • Provide follow-up support to ensure successful job retention.
  • Assists with conducting new hire and supervisor orientations for employer and WEX (Work Experience) participants.
  • Complete documentation for Work Experience opportunities accurately and on time.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Works closely with Department of Labor Apprenticeship liaison to ensure transition from Work Experience to Apprenticeship or Secondary Education
  • Responsible for coordinating and overseeing the placement of youth in work experience placements with local employers, ensuring that each participant has received adequate training and support to succeed in their placements.
  • Monitor and record clients' progress in the Maryland Workforce Exchange System.
  • Completes all forms and documents associated with the above responsibilities accurately and on time.
  • Work closely with OSY Career Advisor to communicate about youth in the pipeline for opportunities, assist with mitigating barriers to employment/training.

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to collaborate within OSY department and across WSM for a solution-based approach.
  • Passion and desire for working with young people, assisting them with career goals.
  • Strong networking skills, and ability to make business connections.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office


Education & Experience


  • Experience with businesses and individuals on Work Experience contracts, apprenticeships, and/or workforce development contracts.
  • WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) Grant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Education, Youth Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Any offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of WSM background screenings.


Status: Full-Time


Location: The position will be based at the WSM American Job Center in Wheaton, MD and operate on a hybrid schedule. Applicants should be local to the DC Metro region.
