Job Description

JOB SUMMARY


The primary responsibility of this position is to work collaboratively with the HFY Program Coordinator and/or HFY Program Supervisor to serve youth in the Hope for Youth Program. The HFY Program Assistant will assist youth by providing mentoring, academic enrichment/educational support, conflict resolution/life skills, and co-facilitating evidence-based interventions to mitigate the likelihood of delinquent behavior of youth served.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS


  • Provide supervision, appropriate direction, and positively interact with youth during programming activities, which includes but not limited to academic enrichment, character development, life skills, social/recreational activities.
  • Works collaboratively with youth to assist them with achieving the goals and tasks outlined in the Individual Service Plan.
  • Assist with the facilitation of Evidence-Based Interventions. To include but not limited to Support for Students Exposed to Trauma, ARISE Life Skills/Anger Management, and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Assist youth with remaining outside of the juvenile justice system one-year post discharge from the program in accordance with the Individual Service Plan.
  • Provide transportation of youth to and from programming as outlined in youth’s transportation plan.
  • Assist with data entry, maintaining contract compliance, and required reporting.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities including agency in-service training, professional seminars, workshops, conferences, etc.
  • Assist with maintaining the order, safety, cleanliness of the facility and grounds.
  • Other assignments as needed.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • High School Diploma.
  • 2 years of experience working with the youth in the juvenile justice system or high-risk population youth.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS


  • Demonstrate an understanding of juvenile justice issues to include trauma-informed care best practices, setting boundaries, and a strength-based perspective.
  • Relate positively to youth needing support services and establish effective relationships in varying settings and often during challenging life circumstances.
  • Ability to complete required database documentation thoroughly and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to solve complex, practical problems and effectively deal with complex variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with client and agency information.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Availability to work flexible hours based on needs of the position.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

This job requires the ability to work in stressful conditions from time to time and remain focused for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (boxes, documents, and equipment).
