Job Description
Overview
Under direction from the Director of Youth Employment & Opportunity, the Career Development Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the coordination and implementation of YEO youth workforce development services, programs and partnership development. The position is designed for a motivated individual with strong training, facilitation, and research skills - and a passion for youth career & skill development and program innovation. This role will be responsible for providing youth with the development necessary to build upon their skills, abilities, and qualities to be prepared for transition into post-secondary options, and career pathways.
Responsibilities
Provides direction and guidance as it relates to youth workforce development and partnerships support. This role will report directly to the Senior Manager of Workforce & Career Readiness.
  • Researches and stays abreast with current youth facilitation techniques and integrates proven methods into training curriculum to further enhance youth development and engagement.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Work with university and community-based partners to develop material that is digitally accessible, and language appropriate for targeted age and cultural groups.
  • Trains youth staff workers, partners, and site managers on how to deliver workshops.
  • As needed, support and participate in general youth engagement and employment activities,events and special projects
  • Develop programming that directly correlates with college & career awareness/preparation, financial awareness, entrepreneurship and career pathway opportunities.
  • Coordinates youth workshops and online modules.
  • Creates curriculum for new and returning partners in the employment program and coordinates training materials.
  • Work directly with SuccessLink employees, city agency sites (e.g. BCYF, city hall, Parks & Rec, BPD, BPHC, etc.), and local schools and nonprofit community based organizations.
  • Aids in the assessment and implementation of youth development and program efficiency outcome measures; correlates data from surveys and other reporting vehicles to produce outcome measurements.
  • Creates and develops innovative and interactive workshop curriculums based on research, national trends, and feedback from youth.
  • Perform related work as determined by the Director of Youth Employment & Opportunity and/or YEO Managers or delegate
  • Works with the Senior Manager and Director(s) to pilot and incubate new and innovative youth development programs.
  • Works with Senior Manager and Director(s) to review and make necessary adjustments to training tools, and develop new methods as the work requires.
  • Coach youth and young adult learners on public speaking, and professional etiquette.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Three (3) years of full time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience working with youth in an administrative capacity required, one year of which must have been in a training capacity
  • Strong writing, editing and word processing skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with Boston youth service providers preferred.
  • Previous training and facilitation skills preferred.
  • Experience building or contributing to a youth development curriculum preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) required. Proficiency with Social Media strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, while maintaining attention to detail required.
  • Multilingual ability preferred (ex. fluency in Spanish or Cape Verdean Creole)
  • Considerable internet research skills preferred.
  • Good mediation, facilitation and listening skills required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred and can be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. Training experience cannot be substituted
  • Good oral and written English skills required.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends required
Essential functions are performed in office with occasional meeting and tasks required across the City of Boston
Work hours are typically 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM with seasonal flexibility as needed.
