Classifications/FSLA Status: Level II (Exempt)
Primary Function: Performs diagnostic imaging examinations of patients and assists with the daily operations and functions of the x-ray department, including training, overseeing and collaborating with student interns within the department.
Primary Responsibilities/Duties:
- To perform radiological procedures as assigned by the Doctor of Chiropractic
- To supervise patient care tasks performed by student interns
- To operate and position radiological equipment; to control the set exposure time and distance, abide by examination specifications; and to ensure high-quality imaging and patient safety throughout the process
- To practice radiation safety measures and use protection devices in considering the safety of patients and team members
- To prepare patients for radiological procedures: to escort patients to x-ray rooms; provide verbal and/or written instructions; and to assist patients in body positioning to be radiographed
- To perform related administrative duties in the department related to exams while maintaining department records such as technique charts, logbooks, equipment service records and student records
- To operate within local and federal laws, compliance standards and regulations (HIPAA, FERPA, DHEC and OSHA) related to PHI, equipment operation, and patient safety protocols
- Consult with the X-ray Department Manager, student interns and case doctors as necessary regarding patient image findings
- To communicate any violation of Health Center policies or procedures to the X-ray Department Director
- To ensure all radiological equipment remains in working order and to report any equipment malfunctions to the X-ray Department Manager
- To ensure clean, safe and comfortable x-ray department conditions for student interns and patients
Secondary Responsibilities/Duties:
- To retrieve and import radiological orders and images into electronic health record (EHR) systems
- To lend compassionate, caring and ethical behavior toward students, patients and employees
- To oversee X-ray Interns (XRIs) in their departmental duties within the x-ray department
- To conduct and/or assist with practical evaluations of student interns’ x-ray positioning skills
- To communicate with the X-ray Department Manager about any deficiencies in student intern performance
- To assist the X-ray Department Manager with enforcing the remediation process of interns in radiographic positioning when necessary
- To reinforce didactic radiographic course content to student interns while in the x-ray department
- To assist in the administration and facilitation of quarterly clinical entrance and exit examinations
- To assist in Module II (X-ray Department Policies/Procedures) of quarterly ACR course trainings
- To attend Health Center staff meetings and x-ray committee meetings as necessary
- To attend the quarterly Health Center Intern Pinning Ceremony
- To lend enthusiastic support to college policies and to fellow co-workers and to participate in the annual Lyceum program
- To maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; or participating in professional societies
- To assume such other duties assigned by the X-ray Department Manager, X-ray Department Director or Dean of Clinics
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- A valid degree from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
- A current registration/certification with the ARRT if the applicant is an RT(R), or valid South Carolina chiropractic license
- A current Red Cross certification.
- At least two years of clinical radiological experience.
- Knowledge of radiological standards, requirements and regulations (i.e., equipment uses and maintenance, safety, cleanliness and infection control policies)
- Ability to execute tasks independently, or with minimal supervision, accurately and thoroughly
- Ability to exhibit a professional image and communication style that enhances the doctor-patient and doctor-intern relationship
- Ability to maintain a positive and approachable demeanor
- Ability to maintain an understanding, appreciation and respect for the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic
- Strong professional verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
- Experience, knowledge or credentials in the area of chiropractic radiography is preferred
- Experience with CBCT or computed tomography is preferred
- At least two years of management, supervisory or teaching experience is preferred
- Computer skills: Experience in Digital Radiography, Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems as they pertain to radiological procedures and MS Office
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, stoop, pull, push, lift and/or carry up to 30lbs, sit, squat or kneel, use hands and fingers to grip, handle, grasp or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and work in a range of lighting conditions from full to dimmed light, to complete darkness when required by darkroom environment. Specific vision requirements of the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee works in a controlled work environment and the noise level in the environment is usually minimal.
Exposures: The employee may be exposed to minimal scatter radiation, chemicals, fumes or odors while performing job duties.

The above responsibilities require that this position have access to PHI. Training on what PHI is and how to handle it in a confidential manner is required.
