Position Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
WUNC Radio provides quality news, information and entertainment programming to a broad listening audience that includes North Carolina, the United States and the world. WUNC serves North Carolinians from Greensboro to the Outer Banks through a network of seven stations, with a weekly cume of 400,000 listeners.

Position Summary
As WUNC Youth Mentors, you will lead a team of young reporters through a summer program that teaches young people how to produce public radio-style reports about their communities. Youth Mentors will also assist in the creation and production of the participants’ digital content. Mentors work closely with the participants and WUNC’s Director of New Talent and Community Partnerships through the training, story pitch, reporting, and story production process.
This is a 100% Grant-funded position that will last approximately 10 weeks. The program will begin Monday, June 5th, and run until Friday, August 4th. Participants should designate 10-15 hours a week to work towards a production deadline and are expected to join every training session. You will work in a hybrid format with daily meetings occurring Monday-Friday from 1pm to 5pm.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
