POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Part Time Recreation Specialist to the team at Eastway Regional Recreation Center! This position will focus on planning and implementing a variety of youth recreational programs and activities. In addition, this position will assist in the oversight of a growing afterschool program as well as coordinate indoor and outdoor activities for school day out and summer camps. The incumbent may also assist with planning and executing programs for our senior adult population.The selected candidate will be a key member of our team in creating strong partnerships with our community and patrons. This position will work between 20-29 hours per week, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays based on facility and business needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for Recreation Programming for diverse audiences
  • Experience with Afterschool Programs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Enforce rules and regulations
  • May provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper or linesperson at games.
  • Handles inquiries and complaints from public.
  • Some programs may require driving a county vehicle to transport participants or commute to a different location
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas
  • Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary.
  • Referee at various sports activities
  • Collect fees and take registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals
  • Supervise children involved in after-school, summer camp, child watch or other recreational programs.
  • Assist with department events and field trips
  • Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals.
  • Develop, lead, and evaluate programs and activities in a recreation center or park facility.
  • May serve as manager on duty if the Sr Rec Specialist is not available


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: No experience required

Education: Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Health and Physical Education, or a related field.

Combination of relevant experience and relevant education accepted?: Yes

Computer Skills: Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite

Licenses and Certifications: Position requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina’s driver’s license and County Driving Privileges. Requires the ability to obtain (within one year of hire) and maintain CPR, Wilderness First Aid or First Responder, and American Canoe Association, Kayak and SUP level I or II
