Provide field service engineering and technical assistance to customers in areas of installation, startup, maintenance & repair, training, and modification of equipment. Provide technical solutions to customers that involve engineering research impacting equipment or product design, testing of materials, process studies, and economic impact analysis. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical or engineering technology). This is a degreed engineer with at least one year of experience. Participates on project teams and carries out assigned work activities. Works on fairly routine or structured engineering projects or repair.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Write-Up Supervisor, the Write-Up Inspector performs thorough inbound railcar inspections, comprehensive and accurate estimate package submissions, and supports plant production.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of supplemental repairs
  • Verify the incorporation of supplemental repairs into final Billing Repair Card (BRC)
  • Interface with engineering, car owners and customers for repair instructions (contract review)
  • Inspect and create estimate packages for completeness and accuracy
  • Perform preprocess research
  • Ensure estimates are complete to meet production demand
Working Conditions:
  • Ability and availability to work considerable overtime hours that may often be required,
  • Enter tank cars via a manway opening approximately 20 inches in diameter.
  • Be willing and able to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to: safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, earplugs, and respirators.
  • Climb ladders to heights of approximately 14 ft. high, bend, stoop, stretch, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. to set up tables and/or to attach to tank cars.
  • Possess considerable stamina to perform the essential functions over a large geographical plant area.
  • Be able to tolerate both heights and confined spaces.
  • Have keen visual and audio acuity to recognize various shop danger warning signals to avoid injuries and promote a safe working environment.
