Salary = $55,000-$58,000 per year (plus benefits such as paid vacation, sick time, insurance, and TCRS)


Job Summary


Located in the Greater Nashville Area, Wilson Works is the joint county-wide talent and workforce development program for Wilson County, TN, and the Cities of Lebanon, Mt. Juliet and Watertown. Wilson Works serves as the cornerstone of the community’s broader business retention and expansion efforts to be housed at the Joint Economic & Community Development Board (JECDB) of Wilson County. The Manager of Wilson Works will be responsible for developing, implementing and leading programs and strategic alliances with area business, industry, K-12 and higher education institutions, government, and state and regional workforce and economic development partners in support of the talent and workforce development strategy for Wilson County.


The successful candidate will be a reliable business professional who is a strategic-acting, self-starting, high-performing, team player who can: i) credibly interface and forge partnerships with local industry executives; ii) envision and implement relevant career credentialing and career pathway programs in partnership with local education and workforce development anchors; iii) independently and collaboratively spearhead resource development through industry sponsorship support and/or grant funding identification and securement. This individual will be responsible for the development and management of Wilson County’s joint workforce development program which reflects the best interests of the community and area employers. The primary functions of this role will be to develop and maintain a reliable, local talent development pipeline oriented to the occupations of greatest need or highest importance to local employers and keeping track with high-growth, higher-wage occupations over time.


Essential Functions


  • Leads and participates in the development of workforce program policy, vision, and mission; works with area employers, boards, staff, and other related agencies in collaboratively planning and implementing service delivery; collects necessary data and client and partner input to conduct program evaluation and communicate program results; leads in program re-design to increase program effectiveness.
  • Assists in and supports rapid response activities.
  • Oversees and participates in grant development and administration, budget development, procurement, and related fiscal monitoring and reporting, and revenue/fundraising goals; engages in public-private partnership resource development efforts and maintains client/vendor relationship with area employer investors; coordinates with relevant partners and JECDB fiscal staff as needed.
  • Works with a wide variety of employers, education institutions, community and governmental agencies, and other groups to comprehensively identify needs and strategies; markets programs; promotes community education and awareness related to training and employment issues; attends meetings & makes presentations to promote the program.
  • Leads in developing multi-year plan, policies and strategies; develops contracts; provides technical guidance.
  • As program grows, may perform supervisory functions including recruitment and selection, performance coaching and evaluation, training, staff development, motivation, communication and building shared vision.
  • Works as a liaison to Wilson County Schools, Lebanon Special School District, Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development partners, local elected officials, etc.

Knowldege, Skills, And Abilities


  • Existing knowledge or the ability to quickly develop knowledge of the physical, economic, and social characteristics of Wilson County
  • Experience in digital content creation, web management, and/or social media management is a plus
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective data collection and records management systems and prepare technical reports and documents
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local education, local governments, private industry, general public, state agencies, and other entities
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures related to personnel, budgeting, and purchasing
  • Ability to build and maintain cooperative and effective public relations with area employers and the community
  • Preference for demonstrated knowledge and experience in volunteer leadership and management
  • Demonstrated ability for meeting facilitation and for effective communications in front of groups and with the media; capacity for consensus-building among diverse stakeholders with varied interests; strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide leadership in the development and communication of mission, vision, program goals, etc.; and create collaborative shared vision and efforts among varied related agencies in attainment of these goals

Desirable Education And Experience


  • Competitive applicants will be those possessing any of the following: 1) Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; 2) Associates Degree from an accredited college or university plus two years of relevant work experience; 3) Five years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in recruitment, human resources, workforce development, economic development, education or related field; or any combination thereof.
  • Above-average knowledge and proficiency with computers, personal technology devices and applications in Microsoft Office & iOS compatible environments and with web-based applications.
