Job Description

Position: Woodworking Machine Operator

About the role:

As an integral part of the Woodshop, the Woodworking Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating the woodworking machines. The Woodworking Machine Operator operates the machines in a manner to ensure efficient and quality products are being processed through that operation to maintain schedule compliance.

What you will be doing:

  • Document items produced.
  • Troubleshoot and repair machinery as needed.
  • Verify part measurements and adjust machinery as needed to make corrections.
  • Set up and operate basic woodworking machinery such as saws, table saws, mills, sanders, hand/power tools, etc...
  • Inspect parts for quality.

What you need:

  • The determination to work harder than anyone you know
  • Ability to turn and twist wrist and hands
  • Capable of multi-tasking
  • Self-motivated and driven individual
  • Ability to repetitively lift materials 25 lbs. regularly, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. occasionally
  • Must be thorough with a strong sense of attention to detail
  • Experience with wood processing tools and equipment (preferred)
  • Ability to grip and grasp lumber and panels
  • Ability to understand basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must be resourceful and initiative-taking
  • Experience with domestic and exotic solid woods and veneers (preferred)
  • Friendly, engaging, and professional demeanor
  • Mechanical, repair or maintenance background (preferred)
  • Ability to stand up to ten (10) hours a day
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to implement solutions quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow written and verbal communication
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Ability to read a tape measure and measure to the exact, specific measurement consistently
  • Extremely organized, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight production timelines
  • Working knowledge of woodworking and manufacturing including measuring and use of millwork drawings (preferred)
