QUALIFICATIONS
• Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, preferably in psychology, counseling or education or a

closely related field

• License: Pupil Personnel Services credential in School Counseling or School Social Work required; Multiple Subject or

Single Subject teaching credential preferred (Credential must be completed by July 2023)

• Three years of experience in counseling or classroom teaching experience

• Commitment to Los Alamitos Unified School District’s mission, vision and priority goals

• Passion for working with children; ability to motivate and support staff in reaching high levels of academic success

• Outstanding skills in problem-solving and critical-thinking

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and work closely with a wide range of stakeholders

• Ability to learn laws, rules, policies, practices and procedures related to public education

• Valid California Class C Driver’s License and Vehicle along with proof of auto insurance

ASSIGNMENT/DUTIES

• Implement developmentally appropriate classroom social emotional learning lessons and wellness strategies

• Provide individual and group counseling activities to identified students to address social-emotional needs, attendance

and/or academic problems, and complex case management issues. Use a variety of data gathering and therapy

techniques; serve as a resource to site and District personnel and members of the school community concerning youth

services

• Plan, coordinate and/or develop social-emotional and behavior supports for students; assist in development of 504 plans

and counseling/mental health programs

• Conduct conferences with teachers, administration, support staff and parents to identify student progress and resolve

student problems

• Provide training for staff and parents related to supporting the mental health and wellness of children and adolescents

• Serve as key member of the District Mental Health & Wellness Team, responsible for deploying mental health and

wellness initiatives

• Serve as key member of the District Crisis Response and Threat Assessment Teams

• Flexible work day to provide therapy to students/families evenings and outside of school hours

SALARY AND BENEFITS

• Placement on 2023-24 Management Salary Schedule: Counselor – $110,675 - $137,761 (199 days per year; flexible

workday and work year)
