Job Description
Overview:
Responsible for engineering and process control for all welding processes including certification of welders and weld inspectors for compliance with aerospace and automotive standards.
Responsibilities:
  • Attend required training
  • Research, maintain, and develop material standards as well as metal selections that meet requirements
  • Lead and participate in NADCAP welding audits
  • Direct and support product failure issues associated with metals and weldments and customer returns
  • Attend Welding/fabrication tradeshow
  • Participate in design activity of new products, document and recommend best practices for joint design
  • Provide metallurgical support (sectioning, mounting and polishing, microhardness) for manufacturing, monthly Chord samples, and monthly Nickel plating hardness testing
  • Purchase and maintain required lab supplies for cutting and polishing samples in the metallurgical lab and at satellite sample preparation areas throughout all facilities
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for all welding, brazing and heat treat activity (Electron Beam, Laser, GTAW, GMAW, PAW, Resistance, Brazing-torch, induction, furnace, Bright Hardening)
  • Establish, maintain, review and approve all welding procedures, PQR’s and supporting qualification documents
  • Investigate product/process/equipment improvements, including developing a technology roadmap for the metallurgical lab
  • Train and certify welders, weld/braze operators and weld/braze inspectors to AWS D17.1/AWS B2.2, and maintain current certifications and activity records
  • Own and maintain Keyence scope and other metallurgical analysis equipment
  • Create monthly report for all activity and review with VP of Engineering
  • Maintain AWS CWI License (Certified Welding Inspection License)
    • Attend required training
    • Attend Welding/fabrication tradeshow
  • Review all external material testing and ensure results fall in specifications
  • Maintain furnace compliance to AMS2750
  • Establish and update in-house engineering and process specifications for welding and heat treating
Qualifications:
  • Experience in plating and metal finishing a plus.
  • Degree in Welding Engineering (preferred) or Material Science with minimum 5 years of experience in welding manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
