Welder Apprenticeship Jobs

Petersen Incorporated is looking for students and recently graduated students to join our creative team of fabricators. We build products for a wide variety of companies and industries.

• This is a paid apprenticeship, DOL certified.
• Apprentice will train with and work side by side a Journeyman Fitter/Welder.
• Applicants must be 18 years of age.
• Applicants must be in, or have completed, a Welding Certification Program.

Pay range: $17.00 - $18.50 per hour

Job Summary:

Grind and clean up welds and parts. Weld basic assemblies under direct supervision.

Essential Functions:

• Read basic weld symbols on a blue print
• Drill holes and bevel parts
• Welding in various positions
• Grind and clean up welds.

Training: Enrolled in or received Tech College Certificate

Essential Mental Functions:

Must be able to understand instructions and react favorably in all work situations. Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflicts, and make effective decisions under pressure.

Essential Physical Functions:

Requires lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, bending and stretching to accomplish grinding, welding and other assigned duties. Requires ability to work at different heights. Requires correctable vision to within normal range in order to perform clean and uniform welds. Requires standing, bending and stooping for extended periods of time.

Safety Requirements:

• Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others
• Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employer’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.

Welder, Crane, Grinder, Tools.

Tooling Required:

• Razor Knife
• Tri-square
• Torpedo Level
• High speed grinder (5”)
• Tool box with lock
• 25 ft tape measure
• Steel toe shoes
• Steel Chisel (1” wide)
• Soap Stone Holder
• 12” Crescent wrench

Provided by Petersen:

• Gloves
• Needle gun
• Safety Glasses
• Face Shield

Availability:

• Must be available and willing to work overtime as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance.

Travel:

Must be available and willing to travel as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Working Conditions:

Works in a typical fabrication shop environment. Occasionally called upon to work overtime. Working conditions may vary according to weather. Requires ability to work in heat and cold.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Must be able to pass weld test in two out of the five weld processes used at Petersen Inc:
• Must be able to pass basic plate weld test (visual and bend) within specified time requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

High School education or GED. One year of shop or field welding. Preferred currently enrolled or certification in Welding program
