Summary:
The person in this position will work with project teams on civil engineering and related technical assignments. Work will include completing designs using CADD modeling software, preparing spreadsheets, preparing construction plans and specifications, completing site development designs, and writing reports. Additional duties include performing construction cost estimating, construction observation, and facility and erosion inspection. This individual may work on projects related to storm water, stream restoration, green infrastructure, water quality, and more. This person may also work with permitting agencies and public officials. Work may require short-term, out-of-town assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering or biosystems engineering
  • Ability and willingness to conduct fieldwork independently or with a team, either locally or out of town, when needed
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word as well as intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other CAD-based civil design software
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of related work experience
  • FAA Part 107 sUAS certification
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified or ability to obtain certification within one year
  • Familiarity with RTK GNSS and or other survey workflows
  • Familiarity with construction contract documents and technical specifications
  • Experience with Civil3D, HydroCAD, and/or ArcGIS
  • Experience with construction administration, construction observation, mine tailings, water management, field surveying, field data gathering, stream restoration, and/or stormwater drainage
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
Note: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials.
