Under supervision, to assist a Senior Water Plant Operator in performing the operation, maintenance and inspection in a water utility; and to do related work as required.
Assists in the operation, maintenance and inspection of wells, pumps, chlorinating equipment, control and metering devices; assures that gates and doors are locked; patrols water installations throughout the City; takes corrective action and reports irregularities; maintains records of starts, stops, or other changes in operations; regulates the flow of water; takes water samples and performs water quality tests; makes tests for chlorine residual and records results; changes recording charts; drives on City business.
Employment Standards:
Knowledge of basic mechanical, mathematical and hydraulic principles.
Ability to use the common tools in mechanical maintenance; read and interpret gauges and recording devices reflecting plant operations; keep accurate written records; follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
Education/Training: Six months of experience in the operation or maintenance of water system facilities.
Special Conditions & Requirements: Employees in this classification, who are required by applicable laws and regulations to have respiratory protection, shall comply with the American National Standards Institute’s requirements on Practices for Respiratory Protection.
License & Certificates: A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent, and grade II Water Treatment Operator’s Certificate issued by the State of California Department of Health are required at time of appointment. Applicants with equivalent certificate from a similar agency of another state will be admitted to the examination.
