How Is This Role Important to Our Work?

This individual will be tasked with leading an enterprise wide effort to enhance our approach to and delivery of Behavioral Health products and services that enable health equity and support parity requirements. Responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of all behavioral health operations and programs. Partners closely with areas across the organization to drive behavioral health programming in support of the health of members with the objective of delivering high quality, affordable, accessible, and equitable behavioral health care. Serves as an executive leader for behavioral health, helping guide and support the organization’s overall direction.

A Day in the Life:

  • Consults with clinical stakeholders to develop improved utilization of effective and appropriate services, including effective member engagement strategies.
  • Manages and guides direct reports and the behavioral health team toward accountable, goal-oriented outcomes aligned with enterprise strategy.
  • Assumes responsibility for, coordinates, and oversees clinical outcomes, quality scores, trends/data & analytics, and operational efficiency and effectiveness related to behavioral health across the organization.
  • Builds and maintains relationships related to behavioral health with key stakeholders including regulators, experts, and health systems in Minnesota and nationally.
  • Sets and executes the behavioral health strategic mission, vision, and objectives in light of member needs, legal and regulatory requirements, and market analysis and industry trends.
  • Provides leadership and expertise in the evaluation and implementation of behavioral health vendors and partnership to extend and promote access to behavioral health services.
  • Communicates clearly and persuasively to build support for initiatives, engaging both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for maintaining and documenting mental health parity in all product offerings, programs, and operations across the organization.
  • Serves as an executive leader and expert resource for behavioral health and is responsible for the enterprise behavioral health strategy and its implementation across the organization.
  • Champions and is jointly accountable for behavioral and physical health integration across the organization.
  • Collaborates with Care Management, Data & Analytics, Network Strategy, Population Health, Legal/Compliance, Quality, and Operations to develop and effectively communicate capabilities, products, and solutions to new and potential customers, providers, regulators, and other external stakeholders.
  • Leads the development and implementation of long-term strategic initiatives and programs focused on helping everyone achieve their healthiest life through affordable and accessible behavioral health care and programming that delivers high quality and equitable outcomes.

Additional Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Possesses strong analytical and organizational skills in a multiple site and function environment.
  • 5+ years of population health and or managed care leadership with knowledge of behavioral health care delivery and the regulatory ecosystem including mental health parity.
  • If applicable current MN license or ability to obtain one.
  • 10+ years of management level experience in healthcare/managed care with proven ability to successfully develop and execute a strategic vision.
  • Knowledge of managed healthcare delivery systems to include critical components and interdependencies.
  • Knowledge of government and CMS policies regarding Medicare and Medicaid eligibility, programs, and beneficiaries.
  • Has an understanding that the “how” is as important as the “what” as it relates to internal and external culture and communication.
  • Experience with strategic planning and the budget process.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external, including Board and C-suite.

Nice to Have:

  • Clinical MD/DO Psychiatrist or PhD Psychologist, LCSW a plus but not required and will consider non-clinical candidates with significant population health and/or managed care experience.
