Job Description

ACCEL Schools is seeking highly qualified Virtual Middle School Teachers in Florida who are dedicated to providing a superior education for all students in our upcoming 2023-2024 school year! We are seeking teachers who are excited to create a rigorous and nurturing classroom environment that prioritizes student learning and social-emotional development. ACCEL Schools uses a cutting-edge 21st-century curriculum, which can be accessed online and through a variety of traditional methods.

The Virtual Middle School Teacher effectively educates middle school students in conformity with the school philosophy and policies and rules of the governing bodies.

Duties include:

  • Maintain effective and ongoing communication with students, parents, staff, school administration, and other stakeholders
  • Prepare and administer all standardized tests as required, including online and in-person assessments
  • Maintain a positive school environment through effective conflict resolution, collaboration, positive reinforcement, and educational leadership modeling
  • Establish and maintain a positive rapport with students, parents, staff, school administration, and other stakeholders
  • Model tolerance, global awareness, reflective practice, and the behavior we expect from our students
  • Actively assists in student recruitment and retention activities as directed by the Administrator
  • Maintain a safe and orderly online classroom environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Possess the knowledge to learn data and delivery systems necessary for the content, resources, and systems to create, manage, and assess engaging and relevant student learning experiences and support students in their learning experiences both inside and outside the school
  • Perform student home visits, as needed
  • Teach content area following the school's course of study or as assigned utilizing technology and varying teaching modalities
  • Plan and execute instructional lesson plans based on Florida's standards
  • Attend and/or participate in school activities as directed by the Administration such as: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), open houses, commencement exercises, field trips, professional learning communities
  • Keep accurate records on each student such as grade books and progress reports, lesson plans, attendance records, and behavior/discipline records
  • Travel up to 20% of the time may include attending in-person meetings, professional development and training opportunities, and other events, including in-person testing, as required by the state
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities
  • Align material to Florida's standards and/or create course materials aligned to applicable standards
  • Implement positive and effective classroom management and issue discipline in an orderly fashion conducive to good learning
  • Adapt and enrich the curriculum using multiple strategies and online tools in imaginative ways to actively engage students in their learning for enrichment or remediation purposes
  • Motivate students to achieve their full attendance, academic, and behavioral goals, as well as other goals identified
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning all student information and any professional matters
  • Serve as a teacher of record and primary instructor in (subject) for students in Grades 6 through 8

Qualifications:

  • Current Florida teaching license in all relevant content areas and grade bands
  • A passion for teaching and genuine care for children
  • Experience implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)/Response to Intervention (RtI) process
  • Strong content knowledge in one or more content areas
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Google Docs, MS Office Suite, e-mail, and internet applications.
  • Prior online teaching experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • ESOL certification or endorsement preferred
  • Ability to pass state and federal background checks
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field
  • Ability to work well under pressure as well as effectively prioritize and execute tasks to meet deadlines consistently
  • Ability to work with a diverse and distributed student body and peer group
  • Has reliable transportation
  • Strong ability to gather, analyze, and interpret student data to make sound educational decisions
