Job Purpose

The Vice President of Manufacturing is a high-level position that oversees, directs, and coordinates the activities of manufacturing and production operations so that the processes run smoothly, efficiently, and on budget. The position develops and implements strategic long-range goals to meet sales and profitability growth objectives, as well as continuous improvement targets and overall budget. This position is hands-on in nature.



Duties and Responsibilities


Strategy & Planning

  • Lead efforts to continuously improve the company’s competitive position resulting in reduced turn time and cost.
  • Participate in strategic and operational processes as a member of the executive management team, including periodic updates to executive leadership team and board members.
  • Plan and direct the manufacturing operations at the lowest cost consistent with established operating metrics and goals.


Operational Management

  • Manage the operations with a result driven framework focused on safety, quality and continuous improvement to meet and exceed customer and company expectations and business goals.
  • Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, or other performance data to measure productivity, goal achievement, and to identify areas needing cost reduction or program improvement.
  • Complete leadership responsibility for performance and overall development of Strapping operations.
  • Provide leadership and employee development through selection/talent acquisition, performance management, training/development, coaching/mentoring and motivation of management, supervisory and hourly personnel in alignment with the business goals and objectives.
  • Direct administrative activities directly related to making products or providing services.
  • Identify, share and leverage best practices across the business as appropriate.


Manufacturing Management

  • Leads safety activities. Enforces all safety rules.
  • Defines priorities, approves schedules, and assigns work to implement production schedules based on material, machine, and staff availability.
  • Ensure that the quality of the product produced and shipped 100 percent accurate to the specifications and fit for use.
  • Ensure that product is ready to be shipped on time.
  • Develop standardized work practices in production.
  • Manages and directs manufacturing activities.
  • Promotes open communication between employees and management.
  • Ensure maintenance of records and files relating to production, machine schedules, work schedules, and personnel issues.
  • Manage changes of work assignments in response to schedule changes or problems with material, machine, or staffing.
  • Ability to prioritize production based on customer commitments and material availability.
  • Possess strong working knowledge of manufacturing, including the underlying theories and concepts of lean manufacturing and product engineering.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience with project management and process improvement.
  • Experience with Mergers & Acquisitions, and experience working with Private Equity owned Portfolio Companies is a plus.
  • Demonstrated successes within a metric-driven environment.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight to ten (8-10) years of experience developing and managing in a manufacturing environment. MBA desirable.


Direct Reports

  • This position will be responsible for managing a group of direct reports domestically and internationally within manufacturing and production operations, to include engineering.


Role Objectives

In the initial year of hire, success in the position will be measured by several objectives to include the following ones:

  • Implementation of a safety culture, with improvement of safety KPIs and reduction of safety incidents.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce production costs and improve efficiencies.
  • Plan and implement programs to improve the cleanliness and appearance, and organization of the facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to the production schedule, to improve inventory turns and eliminate backlog.
  • Implement standardized preventative maintenance programs.
