Job Description
Summary
The Vice President of Inspections oversees all operations and performance metrics of the Inspections Department. He/she is responsible for communicating and implementing the Pursuing Firm’s vision, mission, and overall strategic direction within the Inspections Department. The VP will also be required to manage the Inspections department, overseeing Tower Infrastructure Inspection Managers and field crews, along with the technical review of gathered data and reporting. This position is responsible for coordinating with the Managing Partners to develop technical and operational approaches for field and office procedures, implementing these procedures, and ensuring all associated department production goals (schedule, capacity, and quality) are realized.
The VP is recognized as an officer of the company and is therefore responsible for representing the Pursuing Firm to clients, internal and external partners, employees, and the general public at all times; setting the example of leadership, culture, and comradery necessary to develop and maintain relationships with those vital to the success of the company.
The Vice President is responsible for recruiting, managing, and retaining department personnel, including ensuring that his/her team has the right processes and tools to be successful. He/she is accountable for the fiscal responsibility and sound financial management of his/her department(s) through developing, recognizing, and implementing practices that increase revenues and decrease costs as well as driving revenue generation through client development and retention. Although the Vice President’s direct responsibilities are generally contained to the functional (departmental) that he/she manages, they understand the broader-sweeping corporate strategies and work closely with the heads of all departments, technical (production) and administration, to ensure teamwork and advancement towards company objectives. Additionally, he/she may be involved in over-arching decisions through participation on the president or CEO-led team that creates the organization’s overall vision, mission, values, beliefs, and strategic goals.
VP Responsibilities
  • Responsible for monitoring operational compliance of department with company policies
  • Maintaining awareness of both the external and internal competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, and new industry developments and standards
  • Assist in training field crews regarding technical, safety, and company policy procedures
  • Work with CAD and structural engineering staff to develop efficient processes and resolve questions regarding technical content
  • Oversees hiring/firing of all department staff
  • Perform quality inspection of department deliverables, providing coaching/training to teams as necessary to improve delivered product
  • Manages the Department leads and helps make them successful/effective through the implementation of innovative and efficient procedures and processes
  • Oversees management of all departmental resources, including efficient allocation to varying department demands
  • Leading the formulation and implementation of the strategic plan that guides the direction of their area of functional responsibility, including accepting accountability for financial performance and implementation of strategic initiatives
  • Develops client relationships, client retention practices, and grows/develops/maintains revenue streams
  • Interacting with top priority clients on various issues
  • Proactively track field crew performance per company expectations, addressing and escalating issues as required
  • Accountability for the overall performance of managed field crews, including technical, schedule, pacing, equipment usage and human resource related issues in accordance with company guidelines and policies
  • Serve as the lead technical resource for field crews; responding to inspector queries, issues, concerns
  • Develops a great recruiting and retention program
  • Maintain, enforce, and promote company safety guidelines
  • Contributing to the sales and profitability requirements of the business through strategic business development
  • Oversees management team’s development of standard operating procedures for above and below grade inspection services, including management policies for internal field crews to support inspection operations
  • Review/compile department deliverables with the Engineering Manager, including but not limited to TIA Inspection Reports, Tower Mappings, Mount Mappings, Foundation Mappings, Post Construction/Modification Inspections
  • Reviews and tracks departmental financial performance and budgets, including the communication and resolution of significant variances as well as the authorization of budget expenditures
  • Work with project coordinator to proactively track field work completion status, taking action as schedule expectations dictate
  • Develop strategies and policies to help department reach company-appointed goals
The selected individual will be expected to have a thorough understanding of Above and Below Grade Inspection services and how they contribute to and affect the successful delivery of a turn-key end-product from both a technical and scheduling standpoint. Due to the nature and limited timelines of most projects, the selected candidate should be willing and capable of exhibiting the work ethic and social ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment where timely communication with co-workers, clients and strategic partners is paramount.
Additionally, the Pursing Firm is seeking a candidate with leadership and business acumen necessary to develop methodologies and standard processes outside of the typical structural telecom process, with a focus on communication, quality, constructability, and logical quality control processes.
Computer Software Experience
  • In-depth knowledge of structural analysis and design software including TNX Tower, RISA 3D, and foundation design/analysis programs is desired
  • Functional proficiency with AutoCAD is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and advanced Excel functions is required
Experience/Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience and demonstrated proficiency in the design, evaluation, and/or inspection of telecommunication structures including tower and foundation components
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client and strategic partner relationships
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development and client relations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with contractors, clients or their representatives, jurisdictional officials, and other engineering vendors
  • Knowledge of tower reinforcement/erection and tower construction practices preferred
  • Working knowledge and thorough familiarity with codes and standards relating to telecommunication structures, including TIA/EIA-222 requirements
  • Ability to interpret site construction drawings, site audits, etc. regarding spatial relationships of various telecommunications infrastructure as it relates to above and below grade structural design requirements
  • Knowledge of bolted and welded connections
  • Knowledge of tower hardware and components, including the examination of probable cost relating to the specification of such equipment

Educational Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Structural or related engineering field from an ABET accredited institution.
